The 2021-22 FA Cup will offer up a new page in the history book of football's oldest cup competition.

While Leicester City added a new name to the trophy with their shock win last season, 23 of the last 26 editions have been won by the same five clubs - Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

With the third round having added the big boys to the pot in January, GOAL has what you need to know about the favourites, underdogs and outsiders to lift the historic trophy in 2022.

FA Cup 2021-22 favourites

Despite dominating in the Premier League and League Cup over much of the past decade, Manchester City have won the FA Cup just once in the last 10 seasons - as part of their domestic treble in 2019. Nevertheless, they are the clear 7/4 (2.75) favourites to go all the way this time around, with their dominant performances at the top of the Premier League suggesting they are more than capable of fighting on multiple fronts once again.

Having forced their way back into the Premier League title picture and already savoured Carabao Cup glory in 2022, Liverpool are 9/4 (3.25) in the FA Cup betting stakes. Jurgen Klopp has been accused of not taking this competition seriously enough in the past, having never gone beyond the fifth round in his six seasons on Merseyside. With less squad depth at his disposal than Guardiola, the German has usually focused his resources on success in the Champions League and Premier League. Nevertheless, the Reds would no doubt love to see this trophy return to Anfield for the first time since 2006.

Having stood between City and Champions League glory in last season's final, Chelsea are priced at 4/1 (5.0) to also beat them to FA Cup glory this campaign. The Blues have taken part in four of the last five finals but finished on the winning side just once, losing out to Arsenal and Leicester in the last two seasons. Nevertheless, Thomas Tuchel has shown himself a strong tactician in cup competitions and is more than capable of bringing this trophy back to Stamford Bridge for a ninth time.

FA Cup 2021-22 contenders

Frank Lampard won the FA Cup on four occasions as a player and would become an immediate hero at Everton if he can land them a first major honour since 1995. The Toffees, who are 12/1 (13.0) for ultimate glory, are set to face Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals of this season's competition.

The Eagles are available at the same price, with French boss Patrick Vieira - whose last kick as an Arsenal player in 2005 saw him secure English football's oldest trophy for a fourth time - looking to repeat the success he enjoyed as a player in a coaching capacity.

Southampton's last major honour remains their 1976 FA Cup win and the Saints are 16/1 (17.0) to repeat those heroics in the present as Ralph Hasenhuttl seeks to build on the impressive foundations he has put in place at St Mary's.

Outside bets to win FA Cup 2021-22

Nottingham Forest Leicester FA Cup 2021-22Getty

Nottingham Forest have seen off the last two winners of the FA Cup - Arsenal and Leicester - en route to the last eight, but are 50/1 (51.0) to see a dream run carry them all the way to silverware at Wembley.

The Reds' Championship rivals Middlesbrough are available at the same price, with the men from Teesside claiming the notable scalp of Tottenham in round five as they look to complement a second-tier promotion bid with a bid for unlikely cup glory.
