The Amakhosi mentor has welcomed the contract extensions of his defensive duo

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernest Middendorp has described Ramahlwe Mphahlele as a ‘leading light’ after the defender opted to renew his contract with the Soweto giants.

Mphahlele along with another full-back in Kgotso Moleko committed their immediate futures to Amakhosi as both agreed to two-year-deals.

Nonetheless, Middendorp is understandably delighted to have tied down both players.

“Moleko is on a great turnaround,” Middendorp told the club’s website .

The full-back has made 10 league appearances this season and has come into his own after the appointment of the German-born mentor.

“He did not feature much in the early part of the season. I am happy because of his capacity to give us options. He is not only a player to use on the right position, but he is capable of playing in the centre of our defence,” he added.

Meanwhile, Middendorp reserved the highest of praises for the Mphahlele.

Ever since joining Chiefs from Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, the 29-year-old has been a mainstay at Naturena.

Middendorp certainly sees the importance of Mphahlele and believes that he still has a lot to offer.

“It is absolute pleasure to have these contracts extension, so we can focus on delivering on the field,” he said.

“Rama is a leading light in the team. With his experience, age and influence he has a lot to offer in the team,” he concluded.

Both players were instrumental in Chiefs’ recent win over Maritzburg United and Middendorp will be hoping to rely on their solidity at the back as the Glamour Boys next take on SuperSport United this weekend – a match in which defeat could potentially signal the end of either side’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) title charge.
