Kedah learned a lesson from their 3-3 draw at home against Negeri Sembilan earlier this month, and did not repeat the mistake in the return fixture.

Although Kedah played a more attacking game in the first half of their away league match against Negeri Sembilan and found two early goals courtesy of Liridon Krasniqi (8') and Akhyar Rashid (17'), in the second they sat back more to absorb the hosts' push for a goal.

Fortunately for the visitors, although Flavio Beck would help the Deers pull one back through his 76th minute strike, they couldn't find the equaliser.

Speaking to the broadcaster after the match, Red Eagles centre back Khairul Helmi Johari said that they had to sit deeper after the break as the hosts were in the ascendancy.

"We were superb in the first half and got two goals to show for it, but in the second we had to take the risk by playing more defensively. On top of this, Negeri were playing a high-pressing game and opened up gaps in their defence. We had to take the opportunity of attacking them with counter-attacks.

"We were playing away from home anyway, and Negeri were able to hold us to a 3-3 draw when we met earlier (May 1). We learnt a lesson from the draw, and the outcome is tonight we are able to come away with the three points," explained the Malaysia international.
