Twelve years ago, a 19-year-old Dario Vidosic burst onto the scene with Queensland Roar and secured himself a move to German club FC Nürnberg not long after.
It's a situation fellow Melbourne City teammate Daniel Arzani now founds himself in, with the teenage winger seemingly destined for a European move after a breakout A-League season.
After also starring off the bench for the Socceroos, the likes of Juventus were linked to Arzani but Manchester City now loom as his most likely suitors with a loan move to follow.
While some want Arzani to remain in Australia for a little longer, Vidosic made a similarly swift move to Europe and believes with the right attitude it can only help you improve as a player.
"Once you get over there the talent of players and everything you face you can only get better," Vidosic told Goal.
"I was playing and learning off very good players in my position. You have to step up your game another level and I believe at 19 I was mature enough at the time heading over.
"I think he's got a good head on his shoulders."
Vidosic scored and assisted a goal in his debut off the bench for Roar in 2006 with Arzani's rise similarly impressive.
While with only two goals and two assists from his first season in the A-League, the winger has caught the eye most with the ball at his feet.
With the world now also at his feet as a result, Vidosic feels the interest in Arzani is a testament to his talent and where it can take you in football.
"He’s done extremely well and it just shows how everything can change very, very quickly," he said.
"Hopefully he can stay in the same trajectory if he does head overseas.
"We’re all anticipating where he ends up. Obviously we’d love him to stay but his talent has Europe calling."
