Coach Maikaba unsurprised by Akwa United's amazing start

The Promise Keepers’ gaffer has praised the effort of his players after they silenced Enugu Rangers by two unreplied goals

Akwa United's coach, Abdu Maikaba has stressed that he was not surprised at the form of his players who made defeated Enugu Rangers 2-0 in their NPFL opener.

The game played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium saw Kelly Kester and Dennis Nya get the goals in the 40th and 66th minutes respectively and Maikaba said both players and others in the team can offer more.

“It was a vintage performance from the team and I must say that they need commendation. Our newly signed players and others in the team really stepped up their game and I must admit that they impressed me,” Maikaba told Goal.

“We didn’t we want to make too many changes and it was the reason why we gave four of the new players the opportunity to start the match and they never disappointed. They were cool and calm throughout their stay on the pitch.

“It was a team performance. We can only improve knowing that the season has just started. We shall go to Omoku with the conviction that we can get another good result.”
