Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix share the points after costly miss

An unbelievable miss from Steven Taylor has proven very costly as Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix played out a goalless stalemate at Suncorp Stadium.

After beating Newcastle Jets 2-1 last week, the Phoenix started the match with plenty of confidence and should have opened the scoring in the ninth minute.

Wellington defender Taylor somehow missing from point-blank range after the ball broke through to him at the far post.

That was the best chance for either side in a first-half initially dominated by the Nix before Brisbane started finding their feet.

Following the break, both sides started getting forward with real intent and Tobias Mikkelsen had a great chance to put the Roar ahead only to fire straight at Filip Kurto on the hour mark.

Brisbane were getting forward dangerously and should've gone ahead was it not for some desperate defence from Wellington, in particular from Tom Doyle.

With the game creeping towards a goalless draw, Roar's Spanish midfielder Alex Lopez took it upon himself to find a breakthrough as he dribbled forward and forced a fine save from Kurto at the death.

No goals at full-time but plenty of endeavour from both teams, who showed signs of promise so early in the season and will only get better once they shake off their cobwebs in front of goal.
