Bolton striker Adam Le Fondre set to sign for Sydney FC - report

After a number of near misses, Sydney FC seem to have settled on their next striker with reports Bolton's Adam Le Fondre has quit the club in order to join the Sky Blues.

The Bolton News reports that Le Fondre is set to move to Australia and sign for Sydney after a career spent entirely in England.

Bolton, currently in the Championship, confirmed the 31-year-old's departure revealing he was presented with an 'opportunity of a lifetime'.

"Adam Le Fondre has been given permission by Bolton Wanderers Football Club to speak with a club overseas regarding a possible transfer after being presented with an opportunity of a lifetime," a club statement read

“The striker, who did not feature in Wanderers’ Carabao Cup game at Leeds United earlier on Tuesday evening, has expressed a strong desire to take on this new challenge.

“Taking all factors into consideration, Bolton Wanderers Football Club has reluctantly agreed to allow the player to leave the club with immediate effect to pursue his ambitions."

Le Fondre joined Bolton permanently at the start of last season as he scored one goal across 13 appearances.

He has previously enjoyed one season in the Premier League with Reading where he scored 12 times in 34 league games.

His best seasons in front of goal were with Rotherham United between 2009 and 2011 when he notched up more than 20 goals in consecutive League One campaigns.

Sydney FC have been desperately searching for a new striker after the departure of last season's Golden Boot Bobo.

They were close to signing Fernando Torres but fell just short of luring the Spanish star Down Under.
