The Black Stars midfielder has reiterated the team's desire to win the tournament despite concerns about their bonuses which is yet to be agreed on

Ghana midfielder Christian Atsu has rejected reports that suggest the Black Stars represent the country in tournaments to enrich themselves.

The 25-year-old, who has been in fine form in the Africa Cup of Nations, claims they want to end the country's 35-year-old run without a major trophy and are not thinking about bonuses.

Avram Grant's men have already booked their place in the quarterfinals with a game to spare after defeating Uganda and Mali in the group games.

“We want to win something for Ghana. We have been in this competition for long and always go home without that cup," Atsu said.

“Ghanaians are not happy. We are determined to win this cup and it has nothing to do with money. With or without money, we will do our best to win the cup for Ghana,” Atsu noted.

Although, Atsu claims the players don't aim at bonuses, he believes the country must meet certain demands since there aren't pension schemes for players.

“We play, we deserved to be paid because it’s our profession. The state will not take care of us when we go on pension. So whatever is due us must be given to us.

“However, we are not saying without the money we will not play for the country. Money is secondary to us. All we want to do here is to win the competition for Ghanaians to be happy,” he added.

Ghana will play Egypt in the last group game on Wednesday and it is the Pharaohs who must avoid defeat to qualify alongside the Black Stars.
