Barbarouses seals Sydney FC switch

Sydney FC have signed former Melbourne Victory attacker Kosta Barbarouses on a multi-year deal to add another layer to the Big Blue rivalry next season.

Barbarouses is coming off a career-best campaign where he struck 15 goals and ultimately decided against extending his stay in Melbourne.

The 29-year-old's decision to join the Sky Blues of all clubs is sure to spark some anger among Victory supporters and will make for a very interesting Big Blue match-up next season.

Though a move that was always going to make headlines, Barbarouses stands by his decision to join his former rivals.

“I’m very happy to be signing for Sydney FC as it’s a club I’ve heard so many great things about,” Barbarouses said.

“They’ve had some extraordinary success in recent times and I want to be here to help continue that.

“I’ve no doubt this is a special organisation to be a part of with incredible values and a club first, family culture mentality.”

After losing loanee attackers Siem de Jong and Reza Ghoochannejhad, Steve Corica believes Barbarouses was an ideal man to fill their void.

“Kosta is an extremely good footballer and is highly regarded as one of the best strikers in Australia,” Corica said.

“He is hungry for success which fits perfectly into our culture at Sydney FC.

“There’s no doubt he improves our squad and we are absolutely delighted to have him on board.”

Sydney FC will be Barbarouses fourth A-League club after previous stints with Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix.
