The skipper of the Pride of Rivers has urged his teammates to be more alive to their responsibilities after a home draw with the Nnewi side

Rivers United’s Austin Festus has sounded a wake-up call to his teammates after their home draw against FC IfeanyiUbah in Port Harcourt on Friday.

Guy Kuemian’s first-half strike was levelled in the second half by Wasiu Jimoh to ensure that honours were even just like it was when they played the same side on March 4, 2018, in a league tie at the same stadium.

Festus noted that his teammates tried their best to ensure they claimed a win but that some tardiness on their part resulted in the Anambra Warriors equaliser and that it was unfortunate that they were unable to get the match-winner.

“It was a game we should have won but somehow we were unable to get a second goal,” Festus told Goal.

“We really played to win but we allowed a loss of concentration to set in and they scored the goal they wanted and closed shop. We have a lot to learn from this match and the bottom line is that we must prepare harder for the remainder of the league season.

“We were better in the first half but in the second half we were unable to match our first half performance and had to pay for it dearly. We must pick it up from here and ensure that we don’t repeat similar mistakes in the future.”

He charged his teammates to be serious with the remaining part of their build-up to the restart of the league to ensure that they finish the season strongly.

“It is our desire to finish the season as high as possible and we shall try our best to achieve that,’ Festus further stressed.

“We can do that only if we work as one as try to stop a repeat of some of the errors that were noticed against FC IfeanyiUbah. Rivers United have an identity and we must strive to maintain it at all times.”
