Orlando Pirates forward Augustine Mulenga says his hard work paid off following his excellent display against Bidvest Wits on Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old player grabbed a brace as the Buccaneers secured a 4-0 victory over the Clever Boys at the iconic Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

The victory helped Bucs, who are placed second on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) standings, cut leaders Mamelodi Sundowns' lead to just four points.

The two teams are left with two matches each and Mulenga says they are only looking to win their remaining games, and see where they finish.

“I thank God, the coaches for giving me this opportunity," Mulenga told SuperSport TV.

"I would like to thank the guys for the opportunity in today’s game," the forward, who was making his second start, continued.

Mulenga, who joined the Soweto giants from Zambian side Zanaco last January, credited team work for their emphatic victory.

"It was not easy but because of the effort we put in, we got the three points,” he added.

“For me as a player, it’s because I work hard in training and no wonder I got the performances I did today," Mulenga explained.

"It’s because of the hard work I put training and the guys who keep encouraging each other. No wonder we are this far," he said.

Mulenga insisted that Bucs are not focused on beating Sundowns to the league title.

“We just have to work hard in our last games and know where we are going to find ourselves," the Zambia international indicated.

"So, we just have to work hard for the upcoming games,” Mulenga concluded.

The skillful forward has definitely hit the ground running at Bucs having netted three goals in five league appearences for the Soweto giants.

Mulenga and his Pirates team-mates will take on Cape Town City in the Mother City on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15h00.
