Ashgold boss not blaming players for Ghana Premier League defeat to Berekum Chelsea

Ashanti Gold coach Charles 'CK' Akonnor is disappointed by their matchday 15 defeat to Berekum Chelsea, saying his outfit "did their best".

Stephen Amankonah emerged the hero at Golden City Park in Berekum as his goal ensured a 1-0 triumph for the home side.

The result saw Ashgold slump from second to third on the league table.

"I am a bit disappointed but I cannot blame the boys too much. They did what they could. We did our best but it was not good enough," Akonnor said.

"We came in with the idea to be sound defensively and so we had a lot of men at the back in the first half to look for counter attack situations.

"It didn't work and so the second half, we got back to our basics where we played sort of a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 formation. It sort of brought in fresh ideas but we weren't too creative.

"It's a match that seemed so difficult for both sides. We did what we could but there wasn't much in it.

"We had a couple of chances but unfortunately we couldn't take them and we conceded - to my understanding we slept in that moment."

Ashgold can, however, tie Medeama at the top of the table, or in the least, reclaim the second position should they win an outstanding matchday seven fixture against Aduana Stars.
