'An absolute joke' - Mark Rudan's extraordinary Wellington Phoenix rant

The Wellington coach was left fuming after his side were made to pay for a costly referee decision

The pressure is clearly getting to Wellington Phoenix coach Mark Rudan after he was on the wrong end of a questionable red card decision against Perth Glory on Sunday.

Wellington looked on track for a 1-0 win against Glory until VAR intervention saw Ryan Lowry sent off for an innocuous challenge which allowed Diego Castro to step up for a late equaliser.

The result leaves the Nix in ninth with just one win from their first six games and Rudan believes decisions are consistently going against his side because the club are on the A-League fringes.

"Little old Wellington Phoenix. I spoke about this when I first came to this football club, that nothing goes our way," Rudan said.

"Everything goes against us because no one wants us around. And here we are six weeks into the season and we're seeing this happen.

"If (referee Adam Kersey) can sleep well at night, good on him. But you know, he's cost us, he certainly has."

Rudan labeled the VAR a mockery and was left livid with the lopsided yellow card count that saw his side cop five second-half yellow cards.

"It couldn't have been more one-sided. I've never seen anything like it," Rudan said.

"It got to the point where I had to laugh. I turned around to my coaching staff and it was hilarious. It was a joke, an absolute joke."
