Family to decide Johan Absalonsen's A-League future

As far as marquees go this season, Johan Absalonsen is one that's flown somewhat under the radar at Adelaide United.

Injury certainly hasn't helped the Danish winger steal the spotlight from the likes of Adrian Mierzejewski and Leroy George, but when fit Absalonsen was a sight to behold in the A-League.

After an enjoyable first season in Australia with the Reds, the 32-year-old is off contract and isn't sure whether he'll stay down under with his family to play a key part in his choice.

"I don’t know yet," Absalonsen told Goal on the Dolan Warren red carpet.

"That’s still a family decision."

Adelaide are understandably keen to secure his services after he scored six goals and assisted four more from just nine starts and 12 appearances.

Prior to moving to the A-League, Absalonsen spent the entirety of his career in the Danish Superliga with four different clubs including heavyweights København.

Savouring the change in football and weather, the Dane spoke highly of his season with United.

"Very good, I enjoyed it," he said.

"Very different from the Danish league and Danish football in general.

"The lifestyle here is fantastic, I really like it here.

"The weather in Adelaide 10 to 15 degrees higher than in Denmark so I’m really enjoying it. It's easy living here."

The Reds lost 2-1 to Melbourne Victory in week one of finals, and despite the clubs being fierce rivals, Absalonsen is backing Kevin Muscat's side to win the grand final.

"I hope Melbourne Victory so that we lost to the champions," he said.

"I think they will win… I just see a really hungry team in Victory."
