Akwa United coach, Abdu Maikaba is certain that the tips they have received and the investigation they have carried out on Al Hilal of Sudan will help them cope with whatever they throw at them when they slug it out in Omdurman on Sunday in the first leg tie of the playoff round of the Caf Confederation Cup.
Maikaba said that he has got up to date information about the Sudanese side which the technical crew and the players have studied very well and that they hope to explore their weaknesses during tie to get a decent result that they hope to consolidate on when they host them in the return leg in Uyo on April 18.
“We believe we have done our home work well and hopeful of a good result in Omdurman on Sunday,” Maikaba told Goal.
“We got some videos of their last set of matches and we have watched them together as a team. I have also been in close touch with my allies in Sudan and have given me some tips on how to navigate our ways against them.
“We will try to avoid making too many mistakes and we will also cool the minds of the players before and during the game knowing that they will playing before full capacity spectators. We hope to get a decent result that will make it possible for us to qualify when we host them in Uyo.”
The former Wikki Tourists and Kano Pillars coach further however dispelled the notion that his players are afraid of their Sudanese opponents while insisting that the Promise Keepers won’t be disgraced in Omdurman.
“All what we ought to have done as team have been done and we expect a good outcome on Sunday in Omdurman. Our players are not afraid and have developed thick skin knowing that they must be at their best to get a good result.
“They are not afraid of Al Hilal or their fans and they have assured me that they will approach the game as cautious as possible in their ambition to return to Uyo with a favourable result,” he stressed.
