The AFC Champions League 2018 semifinals delicately poised. Here is a look at what awaits us in a crucial week with the second leg action set to unfold:
Persepolis (IRN) v Al Sadd (QAT)
Iran's Persepolis will play hosts to Qatar's Al Sadd in the second leg of their AFC Champions League semifinals. After a 1-0 win away from home in the first leg, the Iranian team will be supremely confident of securing a spot in the final.
They were beaten at the same stage last season but will now be looking to reach their first ever final. But they have a big challenge in the form of Al Sadd who will be fired up to prove their detractors wrong. Persepolis displayed a sturdy defence in the first leg and will be looking to reprise the same performance at the back on Tuesday as well.
Al Sadd, who had scored 20 goals in the tournament so far, were muffled in the first leg. Now, they need to prove themselves and possibly score at least 1 goal in the tie. But with the likes of Xavi in their ranks they will be confident of unlocking the Persepolis defence.
Venue: Azadi Stadium, Tehran
Kick-off: October 23, 18:30 UTC+3:30
Suwon Samsung Bluewings (KOR) v Kashima Antlers (JPN)
South Korea's Suwon Bluewings host Japan's Kashima Antlers in their second leg of the semifinals. After a 3-2 defeat in Japan, Suwon start on the backfoot but know that they have two away goals in their kitty which means a 1-0 or 2-1 win on Wednesday is enough to send them through.
Kashima have been exemplary in the knockout stages this season and will look to take the same form forward against Suwon. They are a goal up and another goal or two on the night should clinch the tie for them.
Neither Suwon nor Kashima have reached the final of the event till date and East Zone will have a new finalist in the competition whatever be the result.
Venue: Suwon World Cup Stadium, Suwon
Kick-off: October 24, 19:00 UTC+9
