Thanks for joining our coverage, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until next time, goodbye!
Southampton have a trip to Brighton next, where they will hope to pick up their first points of the season. Liverpool, meanwhile, host Arsenal at Anfield in an exciting encounter.
There goes the full-time whistle! Liverpool run out 2-1 winners after a magnificent strike from Mane, who did well to feed Firmino for the second goal too. Southampton were the better side in the first half but couldn't score and it looked like their luck was out until Adrian passed straight to substitute Ings to allow Saints back into the game. The former Reds striker could have snatched an equaliser, too but somehow fluffed his lines from just a few yards out! It finishes 2-1 to Liverpool, who go top of the league ahead of Arsenal on goal-difference.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 1-2 LIVERPOOL
90' + 3' Firmino looks like he's in but Djenepo slides in to concede a corner. Mane runs down the clock and eventually goes down but doesn't get the decision.
90' + 2' Mane upends Djenepo and it is a foul this time. The free-kick causes chaos in the box but it's eventually hacked away. Southampton are piling on the pressure.
90' + 1' There will be four minutes of added time, and the home crowd sense an opportunity.
J. Henderson
A. Oxlade-Chamberlain
89' Oxlade-Chamberlain goes off to a warm reception as Henderson replaces him in midfield. Klopp wants more solidity as he tries to preserve this lead.
88' Djenepo goes down after a fair challenge from Mane and writhes in pain. The game goes on for a little longer before the debutant can receive treatment. It looks like he will be okay to continue after some brief checks on the sidelines.
86' MISS! WHAT A MISS BY INGS! Valery has acres of space on the right and fizzes a great low ball into the middle. Ings makes a great run to meet it but scuffs his contact from just a few yards out and it goes wide! How are Southampton not level?!
85' Southampton have renewed belief after that goal and Liverpool are in for a tense few minutes as they look to close out the game.
M. Djenepo
Yellow Card
84' Djenepo earns a yellow card on his debut for a poor challenge on Oxlade-Chamberlain.
D. Ings
Goal
83' GOAL! WHAT A HOWLER! There's no danger as Van Dijk plays the ball back to Adrian in acres of space. He takes an age to play it as Ings closes him down and ends up passing the ball straight off the Southampton striker and into his own net! Ings will be perfectly happy with that against his old club and it's now 2-1!
81' OVER! Adrian beats a strike behind for a corner and then Redmond hits one from outside the box that sails over the bar.
D. Origi
Mohamed Salah
79' Salah makes way for Origi as Klopp makes his second change.
T. Alexander-Arnold
Yellow Card
79' Alexander-Arnold is the first Liverpool player of the day to go into the book, having fouled his man a little clumsily.
M. Djenepo
R. Bertrand
77' Djenepo makes his debut, replacing Bertrand in Hasenhuttl's final change of the afternoon.
76' SAVE! Alexander-Arnold pings a wonderful cross-field ball to Robertson, who nods on for Mane. The Senegal forward back-heels a return pass to the left-back, who thumps a fierce effort at goal that Gunn does well to turn behind!
75' SAVE! Mane meets a right-wing cross at the back post superbly with his head, but Gunn gets across so quickly to turn it behind for a corner! Great goalkeeping!
Fabinho
J. Milner
74' Milner makes way for Fabinho now as Klopp looks for more control in midfield.
73' Liverpool look to have secured the three points with that win and are now heading for their fifth Premier League win away from home - their longest run since they managed six in a row in 2014.
S. Mané
Assist
71' Mane was alert as Southampton overplayed in their corner, pressing intelligently to win the ball high up the field and create a chance - trademark Klopp football.
Roberto Firmino
Goal
71' GOAL!! Firmino makes it 2-0! It's sloppy play at the back and Mane pinches it before feeding Firmino just inside the box. He ghosts past a few players on the edge of the area before guiding the ball into the bottom-left corner past Gunn!
70' Liverpool are just looking to take the sting out of Southampton's momentum as they slow the game down a little at the back.
S. Armstrong
C. Adams
68' Adams has put in a real shift and he is replaced by Armstrong as Hasenhuttl looks to further freshen up his attack.
67' CLOSE! Ings, fresh off the bench, latches onto a loose ball and chops the ball back past a sliding Milner, before striking a clean, left-footed effort from outside the box that flies just over the top-left corner! Good effort from the substitute.
65' MISS! Mane races onto a ball down the left with his searing pace and curls a low ball into the box for Firmino to meet. The Brazilian opens his body up to guide it into the far corner, but he places it just wide! That looked a certain goal.
D. Ings
Oriol Romeu
64' Hasenhuttl makes a bold change. Defensive midfielder Romeu comes off for former Reds striker Ings, who will join Adams and Redmond in attack.
63' OVER! It's worked to the edge of the box and Milner arrives to meet it first-time, but he leans back and sends it miles over the bar.
62' There's a bombardment of crosses from both Liverpool full-backs and the centre-backs are taking it in turns to step out of defence and make an extra man in attack. Southampton are simply weathering the storm at this point.
60' Liverpool are ramping up the pressure now. They're playing with confidence and energy and are first to every ball and are winning their individual battles. Southampton's window to take advantage of may have come and gone.
58' Liverpool are playing with a swagger now, keeping it well and moving it quickly. Much more like them.
56' SAVE! Salah is played clean through on the right and into the box, opens his body up and shoots across goal with his left, but Gunn is out well and denies him with an outstretched leg! Great save!
55' CLOSE! A corner is headed out to the edge of the box and Milner tries to hit it on the volley. His connection is scruffy but a couple of deflections deceive Gunn and the ball squirms just the wrong side of the post!
54' Adams beats Firmino with some neat footwork on the left and swings a cross into the middle, but it's overhit and Redmond isn't a particularly large target to aim at anyway.
53' SHOT! Hojbjerg barges his way to the edge of the box and lets fly. Van Dijk blocks the first effort from the midfielder and deflects the second over the bar and behind for a corner.
52' Salah tries to slip Firmino in inside the box as he charges forward with the ball, but it's intercepted well and thumped away.
50' BLOCK! It favours a left-footed player and Salah duly takes, but it's straight into the wall. Liverpool win a corner as Southampton scramble clear.
48' Matip, up from centre-half, is upended on the edge of the Southampton box by Romeu and earns his side a free-kick in a dangerous position. Alexander-Arnold and Salah stand over it menacingly.
46' We're back underway for the start of the second half!
Despite going in with the lead, Klopp may well have some stern words for his side at half-time. If not for some wasteful finishing and a point-blank Adrian save, Southampton could easily have been the ones to strike first and the Reds will need to improve after the break. Hasenhuttl will feel his side have a chance to make the most of some tired Liverpool legs with some brave pressing and can only ask for a more clinical edge in front of goal in the second half.
There goes the half-time whistle! It's harsh on Southampton, who have been the better side in the first half and caused Liverpool plenty of problems at the back with their early balls in behind, but weren't clinical with the chances they created. The Saints were made to pay on the stroke of half-time as the Reds finally showed their quality and Mane curled in a sumptuous strike from the edge of the box. It's 1-0 to Liverpool at the break!
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 LIVERPOOL
J. Milner
Assist
45' + 1' Milner played a simple pass to Mane on the left and just outside the box, but the whole Liverpool side looked to play at a higher tempo and it's paid dividends.
S. Mané
Goal
45' + 1' GOAL!! Mane makes it 1-0 to Liverpool! Much better from the Reds as they move up a gear and step up the tempo. Mane receives the ball from Milner on the left, drops his shoulder to beat his man and curls a wonderful strike into the top-right corner to open the scoring against his former club!
44' Southampton get in behind Liverpool's defence again as they look over the top with an early ball. The tactic is paying plenty of dividends, but the Reds have survived so far, and Van Dijk gets the latest loose ball clear.
42' Salah goes down in a heap after losing an aerial duel to the towering Vestergaard. It's put out of play eventually and the Egyptian gets to his feet slowly. He looks okay to continue.
40' Liverpool really don't look themselves at the moment. Perhaps, given eight of the 10 outfield players on the pitch started against Chelsea in Istanbul, there are a few tired legs out there for the Reds. They're not pressing with any of their trademark intensity.
38' MISS! Romeu crosses the ball superbly first-time into the box and Adams has got between the two centre-halves to head at goal from close range, but he can't keep it down and it's just over the bar! What an opportunity!
Oriol Romeu
Yellow Card
36' Romeu, in his desperation to keep his side's pressure up, slides in recklessly on Robertson and picks up the first booking of the day.
35' Southampton get to the edge of the Liverpool box but a number of players take it in turns to hold onto the ball too long, with Adams, Ward-Prowse and Hojbjerg all getting dispossessed.
33' OVER! Salah is sent through and curves his run from the centre to the left to meet the ball inside the box. He snatches at his half-volley, though, and sends it high and wide.
31' Liverpool have yet to really impose themselves on the game. Southampton have given a very good account of themselves and have had the better chances so far.
29' Liverpool get into the Southampton third and try to cause some problems as Wijnaldum gets to the byline with a one-two, but his low ball is collected by Gunn at his near post.
27' The home crowd have sensed Adrian's hesitancy in playing out from the back and are trying to make the most of it, putting him off as best they can.
25' Firmino concedes a free-kick for handball on the Southampton left and Ward-Prowse stands over it. His delivery is poor, though, and it sails over everyone and behind for a goal-kick.
23' What a ball from Alexander-Arnold. The young right-back chests down in his own half, advances down the line and lifts his head before curling a sumptuous cross towards the penalty spot from deep. It's only a fraction ahead of Firmino, who applauds the quality of the delivery.
21' SAVE! What a save from Adrian! Yoshida gets a free header to divert the corner goalwards but Adrian makes the save from point-blank range! Salah then tries to lead a counter-attack down the left but is eased off it by Romeu.
20' Adrian's long pass into midfield is headed straight back into the Liverpool third and Matip heads awkwardly backwards and behind for a corner! There was a real sense of uncertainty at the back then.
18' WIDE! The corner is headed only as far as Adams on the right side of the box and he hits an ambitious volley on his left foot. it's always just wide of the target but Vestergaard and Yoshida were inches away from diverting it on target in the middle.
17' A Liverpool attack breaks down and Redmond is sent away down the left at pace. Oxlade-Chamberlain tracks him well, however, and blocks it behind for a corner.
15' Southampton press bravely in the Liverpool third and the Reds are eventually forced long. Hasenhuttl isn't going to set his side up in a negative, low block and look to simply soak up pressure.
13' WIDE! Salah's clever back-heel finds a surging Oxlade-Chamberlain as he gets into the box, but he fires his shot well wide of the far post under pressure. He should have done a lot better from that distance.
11' Southampton are looking to play their forwards in behind the high Liverpool line and got it wrong a couple of times early on, beign caught offside, but Adams timed his run well to create a decent chance just then.
9' CHANCE! Adams gets the wrong side of Van Dijk and latches onto a ball over the top and is in on goal! The Dutchman is tight to him though and Adrian is off his line well to deny the Saints striker.
8' INTERCEPTION! Adrian dwells on the ball too long and, when he tries to play his pass out from the back, is closed down by Ward-Prowse and is fortunate to see the ball ricochet behind for a goal-kick!
6' Oxlade-Chamberlain reaches Salah's pass at the byline and fires a powerful cross towards Mane in the centre, but Ward-Prowse had tracked the Senegal winger's run well and heads behind for a corner.
4' SHOT! Milner latches onto a flick from Mane and drives to the edge of the box before releasing a strike at goal. It takes a deflection, however, which takes all the sting out of the shot and Gunn can simply catch the loose ball.
2' An early chance for the visitors as Oxlade-Chamberlain drives as the heart of the defence before feeding Alexander-Arnold on the right. He clips a ball into the box that's nodded down into a dangerous area, but Southampton hack clear.
1' We're off at St. Mary's! Liverpool get the game underway.
Games at St. Mary's are rarely found wanting for goals. Southampton have both scored and conceded in 13 of their last 14 Premier League home fixtures, with the exception being a 2-0 win against Fulham in February.
This is the third meeting between Ralph Hasenhuttl and Jurgen Klopp in all competitions - Klopp has won both of the previous two, the first with Borussia Dortmund against VfR Aalen in the DFB-Pokal in October 2012 and the second with Liverpool - a 3-1 win against Southampton last season.
Liverpool have only lost one of their last 11 Premier League meetings with Southampton (W7 D3), losing 3-2 in March 2016, and have won their last four league meetings, scoring 11 goals and conceding just once in this run. However, the Reds had lost five of their previous seven against Saints prior to this.
Jurgen Klopp is boosted by Adrian's swift return to fitness following a collision with a pitch-invading fan following their Super Cup victory in Istanbul, and he starts in between the sticks ahead of emergency signing Lonergan, with first-choice stopper Alisson still out with a calf problem. The German still makes two changes, however, with Firmino and Alexander-Arnold starting ahead of Henderson and Gomez. Naby Keita is sidelined with injury and does not make the squad.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl makes one change from the side that was beaten by Burnley last time out, dropping former Liverpool striker Ings to the bench in favour of an extra central midfielder in Hojbjerg as he looks for more solidity from his team. News signing Danso and Djenepo start the day on the bench.
Liverpool substitutes: Fabinho, Joe Gomez, Xherdan Shaqiri, Jordan Henderson, Andy Lonergan, Adam Lallana, Divock Origi
Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Adrian; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane
Southampton substitutes: Kevin Danso, Stuart Armstrong, Danny Ings, Cedric Soares, Moussa Djenepo, Michael Obafemi, Fraser Forster
Southampton XI (5-3-2): Angus Gunn; Yan Valery, Jan Bednarek, Maya Yoshida, Jannick Vestergaard, Ryan Bertrand; James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg; Che Adams, Nathan Redmond
Liverpool will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce in all competitions after easing past newly promoted Norwich City in their Premier League opener before beating Chelsea on penalties to win the UEFA Super Cup. Southampton, on the other hand, will be looking to restore some pride after losing 3-0 to Burnley in their first game of the season.
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League fixture between Southampton and Liverpool at St. Mary's Stadium.
