Gor Mahia and Rayon Sports of Rwanda will be the first sides to face each other in the Nyamirambo Stadium, Kigali, Rwanda.
The two teams took part in the Caf Champions League qualifying matches, unfortunately, they were eliminated in the last hurdle.
The Kenyan side was eliminated on a 1-0 aggregate; 0-0 at home and a 1-0 defeat in the second leg. Rayon went past LLB Academy of Burundi in the first leg of Champions League after winning 2-1 on aggregate.
The Rwandan side however, fell in the last hurdle against South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, drawing 0-0 at home before conceding twice away.
Gor Mahia has been excellent domestically; eight wins and three draws in the eleven league matches puts the side top of the Kenyan Premier League table with 27 points.
Rayon Sports have also been doing quite well, they are currently placed third on the log with 35 points after managing to get ten wins, five draws and three defeats.
This is the first time the two teams face each other in this competition, and considering the fact that they were both relegated from the Champions League makes it more exciting.
Rayon Sports coach Ivan Minnaert says he is ready for action. "The chase for the ticket to quarter-finals starts Sunday, and we can’t afford a false start. Like in all our home games, we are going to do everything possible to get a win."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Rayon Sports: Midfielder Pierre Kwizera is one of the best in the squad, and K'Ogalo should do everything possible to stop him. He was part of the national team that took part in the Cecafa competition last December in Kenya. Striker Caleb Bimenyimana is back from injury, and the best present he can give his supporters is a goal against one of the best sides in East Africa.
Gor Mahia: Godfrey Walusimbi: He has so far missed matches against Esperance and SuperSport United and he will be aiming at making a huge statement when he takes on the Rwandan champions. Meddie Kagere is coming home, and he will want the 'home' fans to sing his name. He has been the source of inspiration for the green army when the opponent becomes stubborn. His pace and strength is in another level.
PROBABLE LINE-UP: Gor Mahia: Boniface Oluoch, Philemon Otieno, Godfrey Walusimbi, Haron Shakava, Joash Onyango, Earnest Wendo, Humphrey Mieno, Francis Kahata, George Odhiambo, Meddie Kagere and Jacques Tuyisenge.
