Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Liverpool move up to sixth in the table, a point behind Chelsea and West Ham who face each other later today. Next up for the Reds is a trip to Manchester United. Meanwhile Newcastle are almost safe, they are now nine points ahead of Fulham in the final relegation spot and they face Arsenal next time out.
Liverpool miss out on the chance to move back into the Champions League places, after conceding a 95th minute equaliser to share the points at Anfield. They opened the scoring early on through Salah and should have comfortably wrapped up the win, only to be superbly denied by Dubravka in the Newcastle goal. The visitors grew into the game and eventually got their reward. Wilson thought he had equalised in stoppage time, but it was ruled out for handball by VAR. However, Willock popped up a few minutes later to make it 1-1.
90' + 7' FULL-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED
D. Gayle
Assist
Newcastle United
90' + 5' There was a slight question as to whether Gayle was onside as the ball was played, but VAR see no reason to rule it out. His header perfectly found Willock, who superbly finished.
J. Willock
Goal
Newcastle United
90' + 5' GOOOAAALLL! This time the goal will stand, Newcastle make it 1-1! Willock with another vital goal for Newcastle to salvage a point! It comes after a long ball into the box is headed back across goal by Gayle and Willock brings it down and then smashes it into the back of the net. Poor defending by Liverpool.
90' + 3' GOAL RULED OUT! Newcastle thought they had equalised in stoppage time! Wilson is played through on goal and only has Alisson to beat. However, his first effort is saved by Alisson, but the rebound cannons back off him and trickles towards the line. The striker then dives in and pokes it into the back of the net. However, VAR take a look and the replays show that the ball came back off the arm of Wilson, so it has been ruled out for handball.
90' + 1' Milner is down wasting some time here for Liverpool after a collision with Saint-Maximin. The hosts are taking their time with any set pieces and throw-ins to try and run down the clock.
90' There will be a minimum of four minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
Fabinho
Yellow Card
Liverpool
89' Fabinho is booked after a blatant block on Saint-Maximin as the Newcastle man looked to break forward on the counter-attack.
87' There's just three minutes, plus stoppage time to be played here. Surely another Liverpool goal would wrap up the three points? Or, can Newcastle push forward and make it 1-1?
D. Gayle
M. Almirón
Newcastle United
85' Gayle comes onto the pitch to replace the injured Almiron.
84' Almiron has a problem for Newcastle now, it seems to be either a muscle injury or cramp as the winger pulls up while sprinting for the ball. It looks like he may have to come off.
82' Decent effort! Milner now with the effort from the edge of the box, but his low strike is too close to Dubravka and is comfortably saved by the Newcastle keeper.
80' SAVE! Mane finds space in the box on the left side and gets away from Murphy, firing an effort towards the near post. However, Dubravka gets across and makes an excellent diving save, to push it behind for a corner.
79' Liverpool will be wary of a late Newcastle goal, as they led for so long against Leeds United last time out and conceded an 87th minute equaliser to share the points.
C. Jones
Thiago Alcântara
Liverpool
77' Another Liverpool change now, with Thiago replaced by Jones in midfield.
75' Into the wall! Alexander-Arnold steps up to take a free-kick in a decent position, around 30 yards out. However, he drills it into the wall and it goes behind for a corner. The resulting set piece ends up making its way to the right-back on the edge of the box, but his volley flies just wide.
73' Into the side netting! Salah goes for goal from a tight angle and he should really fire it across goal, but instead he aims for the near post and drills it into the side of the goal.
73' Stoppage in play now as Fernandez has an issue for Newcastle now, the centre-back is down injured on the pitch after a challenge with Mane. However, he should be fine to continue.
72' Saint-Maximin hasn't had the same influence in the second half as he did in the first, with Liverpool able to keep him much quieter.
70' Newcastle have hardly touched the ball in the last five minutes or so, with their two substitutes Wilson and Willock, not yet able to get involved in the game.
68' The pace of the game has dropped slightly in the last few minutes, with Liverpool just probing forward and Newcastle sitting deep to soak up the pressure.
66' Willock has scored three goals in nine Premier League appearances for Newcastle, having netted just once in 40 league games for Arsenal. Willock’s three goals have been worth five points to Newcastle, with only Wilson’s goals more valuable to the Magpies this term (9).
J. Willock
C. Clark
Newcastle United
64' Another Newcastle change now, with Clark replaced by Willock.
64' Good effort! Robertson picks up the ball in the middle of the Newcastle half and races towards goal, before unleashing a powerful strike towards the bottom right corner of the net. However, it flies just wide of the post.
62' Liverpool have had so many chances to double their lead here, they will hope all these opportunities don't come back to haunt them later on.
C. Wilson
Joelinton
Newcastle United
60' Newcastle have also made a change, with Joelinton coming off and he has been replaced by Wilson.
J. Milner
Diogo Jota
Liverpool
58' Liverpool have made their first substitution of the game, with Jota heading off the pitch and he has been replaced by Milner.
57' CHANCE! Another Liverpool opportunity! A chipped ball comes into the box which Mane can't quite get on the end of it and it is headed up, but not away and falls to Firmino at a tight angle. He fires a low effort towards the near post, but Dubravka gets down again and makes an excellent save.
55' SAVE! Newcastle take a free-kick quickly and catch Liverpool out at the back, with Joelinton latching onto the end of a throughball and firing an effort towards goal from just inside the penalty area. However, Alisson makes a superb save to deny him.
53' This is better from Newcastle, they are enjoying a bit more possession and are getting into the Liverpool half. They just need to start testing Alisson more.
51' CHANCE! Joelinton is played through on goal and tries to flick it past Alisson, but the Liverpool keeper rushes out and just gets to the ball in time, making a great save. The keeper had to time that just right.
50' Liverpool have won four of the five games that they have lead at half-time at home; the only time they did not was a 1-1 draw vs West Brom in December - also the last time they opened the scoring at Anfield in a home Premier League game.
48' Decent strike! Liverpool start the second half on the front foot, pressing forward and Firmino manages to find some space on the edge of the penalty area, firing a low effort towards goal. However, Dubravka gets across and makes a good save.
46' The second half is under way!
Longstaff had the best opportunity for Newcastle, when he was through on goal with only Alisson to beat, but his effort was well saved by the Liverpool keeper. However, Liverpool should be out of sight at half-time.
Liverpool lead 1-0 at the break, thanks to a goal by Salah after just three minutes. They should be further ahead, with Salah, Mane and Jota all having excellent chances to extend their lead, but they've either been off target, or denied by Dubravka, who has been excellent. Newcastle have looked dangerous on the counter, with Saint-Maximin their biggest threat, using his pace to stretch the hosts defence.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED
45' There will be a minimum of two minutes added time played at the end of the first half.
44' Not too far away! Alexander-Arnold does brilliantly down the right wing, drilling a low cross into the box which Mane gets on the end of, but he fires his effort just wide of the post.
42' There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, can Liverpool make it 2-0 before the half-time whistle?
40' CHANCE! Mane now with the opportunity to double Liverpool's lead. They are really opening Newcastle up at the back and sneaking in behind all the time. Salah races through and then squares it to Mane, who tries to round Dubravka and then fire it into the back of the net. However, the keeper does brilliantly to read it and pounces on the ball.
38' SAVE! Dubravka has been very busy today and he has to be alert again after Jota receives the ball from Firmino in the middle of the box and turns and shoots. However, the Newcastle keeper reads it well and makes another good save.
36' CHANCE! Salah should make it 2-0! The striker is released through on goal after a ball from deep over the Newcastle defence by Jota. Salah only has Dubravka to beat, but his strike is straight at the keeper, who makes an excellent save, before jumping on the rebound after it almost falls back to the Liverpool man.
34' Good counter-attack! Saint-Maximin does brilliantly to evade the challenge of Fabinho and break away on the counter. He passes to Joelinton and the striker then tries to feed Longstaff to his left, but his pass is poor and Liverpool manage to clear the danger.
33' Newcastle’s goalless draw against Liverpool in the reverse fixture ended a run of five straight defeats against the Reds. However, the Magpies remain winless in their last eight league meetings with Liverpool (D3 L5) since a 2-0 home win in December 2015.
31' We’re past the half an hour mark now and it remains Liverpool who lead 1-0, thanks to Salah's early strike and the hosts look the more likely to score next.
29' CHANCE! Newcastle try to play it out from the back and mess it up, allowing Liverpool to win the ball back in the visitors penalty area. It bounces around dangerously, before falling to Jota and he volleys an effort towards the bottom left corner of the net. However, he drills it just wide of the post. That should have been on target.
27' Decent chance! Mane gets in front of the Newcastle centre-backs as a low cross comes into the box from Salah, but his shot is deflected well wide of the Newcastle goal.
26' Almost! Joelinton is almost fed through on goal, but Liverpool get players around him and manage to get it safely back to Alisson.
24' Mane manages to get on the end of a deep cross into the box from the right wing and he pulls it back to Jota, but his shot is straight at Dubravka, who makes a good save.
23' Decent effort! Thiago drills a ball into the feet of Salah, who flicks it to Jota on the edge of the box and he fires an effort towards the top left corner of the net. However, it flies well over the crossbar.
21' Newcastle have the ball in the back of the net following a corner that is headed back by Fernandez, but Clark is well offside when he heads it into the goal and the flag goes up before it crosses the line.
20' SAVE! Longstaff breaks forward from midfield and sneaks in behind the Liverpool defence with a long ball over the top and he only has Alisson to beat. However, he seems to get the ball stuck under his feet a bit and his effort is weak and too close to Alisson, who makes a good save. The rebound then almost falls to Joelinton, but the Reds get players back in time and Kabak clears the danger.
18' Kabak just needs to be careful here as he has already been booked and he has just jumped into the back of Saint-Maximin, giving away a free-kick.
F. Fernández
Yellow Card
Newcastle United
15' Fernandez is booked for his late challenge on Jota, with the centre-back clattering into the Liverpool man and catching him in the face.
15' OFF THE LINE! Saint-Maximin sneaks in behind the Liverpool defence and tries to square it across goal for a team-mate to tap-in from close range. However, Fabinho makes the block, which sends the ball towards goal. Lucikly Alexander-Arnold is there to clear it off the line. It wouldn't have counted anyway as the linesman has his flag up for offside.
14' Saint-Maximin is now back on the pitch for Newcastle and he seems to have been able to run off the injury inflicted by Kabak. It looks like the visitors will try and break foward on the counter today, so he is a vital player.
12' Scoring his 20th Premier League goal, Salah has become the first Liverpool player to score at least 20 goals in 3 different Premier League seasons.
10' Saint-Maximin is still on the ground, receiving some medical treatment following the challenge by Kabak and he may not be able to continue. Wilson is getting warmed up on the sidelines.
O. Kabak
Yellow Card
Liverpool
9' Kabak is shown the first yellow card of the game after he deliberately brings down Saint-Maximin as he looked to break foward on the counter for Newcastle. It looks like he now has a problem.
7' Excellent start here by the hosts, they haven't allowed Newcastle any time or space on the ball and they are pushing forward in search of a second goal early on.
5' Liverpool are dominating the early possession here, keeping it well inside the Newcastle half of the pitch, with the visitors sitting deep with everyone back behind the ball.
Mohamed Salah
Goal
Liverpool
3' GOOOAAALLLL! Salah fires Liverpool into an early lead, it’s 1-0! Mane does well down the left and he chips a cross into the box looking for Jota, but he can’t quite reach it and it is flicked on by a Newcastle defender and falls to Salah at the back post. He spins away from Ritchie and then smashes the ball into the back of the net. Dubravka had no chance, great finish.
