K'Ogalo will have to shift focus to the second-tier tournament where they will start from the play-offs after home and away losses

Gor Mahia have dropped to the Confederation Cup after losing 2-0 to USM Alger at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

A brace from Aimen Mahious condemned K'Ogalo to the second tier competition as USM Alger will progress to the group stage of Caf Champions League.

It took USM Alger only three minutes to make their intentions known as they scored the opening goal to stun their hosts.

Oualid Ardji took a long throw which found Mahious who headed past Fredrick Odhiambo in Gor Mahia's goal.

Nicholas Kipkirui squandered a chance in the 13th minute inside the box after he was perfectly picked by Maurice Ojwang.

USM Alger got their second in the 14th minute when a long ball found Mahious in the box and the forward superbly controlled it and fired past Onyango to earn his brace.

Kipkirui's chance went to waste in the 15th minute as he controlled a ball from Muguna and tried to chip it over Mohammed Lamine but the keeper was quick to stretch and parry the ball away.

Muguna would have at least gave his team an opening goal in the 17th minute but he failed to go past goalkeeper Lamine after he was put through on goal by Kipkirui.

Kipkirui again was unable to make his effort count in the 25th minute as a long ball from Ochieng landed his way. Lamine successfully rushed to close in on Kipkirui before the striker could pull the trigger.

Then Muguna failed to beat Lamine in the 30th minute after the visiting goalkeeper spilt the ball in front of him but his effort was too feeble to cause any trouble.

A goal-line clearance by Oussama Chita denied Gor Mahia another chance to open their goal account. Muguna had attempted a long-range shot in the 57th minute but he was denied by the keeper.

Joachim Oluoch hit the bar in the 70th minute after he was introduced for Boniface Omondi. Lawrence Juma attempted to test Lamine from outside the box but the goalkeeper, who was busier in the last 10 minutes, was able to parry the shot over the bar.

He swept the ball from the corner kick again from Kipkirui's head as Gor Mahia's urgency to attack intensified.

The five minutes of added time were also not enough to enable the KPL champions to get a consolation goal as they eventually lost 6-1 on aggregate.
