Commentary

That's all from this live text commentary, thank you for following. Goodbye.
Following the international break, Bayern travel to RB Leipzig on September 14 while Mainz host Hertha Berlin on the same afternoon.
Well, what a second-half display that was from Bayern. They looked just the better side going into the break, recovering from a goal down to lead 2-1 through goals from Pavard and Alaba, but in the second period they turned on the style. The reigning champions added four further goals, with Perisic, Coman, Lewandowski and substitute Davies making it a convincing win in the end for the hosts. Mainz had taken the lead inside six minutes through Boetius and had looked bright in the first half, but they were completely outplayed after the interval and could not touch Bayern.
90' + 1' FULL-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 6-1 MAINZ.
90' + 1' A late chance for Bayern, as Kimmich powers a shot towards goal and Muller tips it over the bar.
90' There will be one minute of added time here.
90' Bayern have won their last four Bundesliga meetings with Mainz, with a goal difference of 14-1. Here, they will make it five and have added another bucket-load of goals in the process.
88' The pace of the game has slowed considerably. Mainz know they are well and truly beaten here.
86' Davies has impressed since coming on. Not only has he scored Bayern's sixth, but here he drills a low ball into the box from the left flank. It's got pace on it and Muller has to dive down to beat it away from his goal. Luckily, no-one was in close vicinity to go for the rebound.
85' This has turned into a rout for Bayern and they are making it look so easy out there.
J. St. Juste
K. Onisiwo
83' Mainz make their third and final change, with Onisiwo leaving the field and being replaced by St. Juste.
T. Müller
Assist
80' Muller does well here to bring the ball down from Kimmich's pass and send it across goal for Davies to tap home.
A. Davies
Goal
80' GOAL! Davies adds Bayern's sixth of the afternoon! Kimmich plays it over the top to Muller, who controls and turns his body to the left before sending it across goal to Davies, who taps home into an empty net. 6-1!
M. Cuisance
Thiago Alcântara
79' Thiago's afternoon is over, and he is replaced by Cuisance.
T. Müller
Assist
78' Muller does well here to find a brilliant ball from the right, which Lewandowski controls and finishes.
R. Lewandowski
Goal
78' GOAL! Lewandowski has his say on the match and Bayern make it 5-1! Muller finds space down the right flank and crosses into the Polish international, who controls well and turns his body to the left before firing a shot past the keeper into the bottom corner.
P. Kunde
Yellow Card
77' Kunde goes into the book for a poor challenge on his opponent, who was getting forward well.
77' Mainz are going for it again here. They have nothing to lose in this game and are trying to recreate some of the problems they caused in the first half. It's making Bayern work, too, and the hosts have picked up a couple of yellow cards in the past few minutes.
Thiago Alcântara
Yellow Card
75' Another unnecessary challenge from Bayern and this time it's Thiago who receives a yellow card for colliding with Szalai.
74' The free-kick is taken but Neuer claims it easily and sends his side up the other end of the pitch.
L. Hernández
Yellow Card
73' Hernandez goes into the book for Bayern for a challenge in which he stepped on the ankle of an opponent and Mainz have a free-kick on the edge of the area.
71' Coman switches the play from right to left with a ball across the pitch, and Davies controls before looking for a team-mate in the area with a low ball. Lewandowski and Coman go for it at the same time, though, and Mainz recover.
69' After a brief drinks break, we are back underway at the Allianz Arena and Bayern are cruising.
A. Davies
I. Perišić
67' Bayern make their first substitution of the game, with Perisic, who has a goal and an assist to his name this afternoon, making way for Davies.
T. Müller
Philippe Coutinho
67' Bayern's second change of the tie sees Coutinho replaced by Muller.
66' If Mainz had a mountain to climb at 3-1, they are more or less out of this game now. Bayern are in complete control.
J. Kimmich
Assist
64' Kimmich sends in the corner and Coman connects with the ball just after it bounces, with his shot going straight past Muller in the Mainz goal.
K. Coman
Goal
64' GOAL! And there it is! Coman scores Bayern's fourth of the afternoon! Kimmich sends a corner into the box and Coman - who beats Martin and Onisiwo to the ball - meets it just after it bounces, meaning his shot is low and Muller has no chance to save it from only a few yards out. 4-1!
63' It looks like it's only a matter of time before Bayern extend their lead, here. They are in total control and are attacking this Mainz defence at will.
61' OFF THE LINE! Lewandowski almost makes it four for Bayern, but it is cleared on the line. Mainz lose the ball sloppily and Coman takes full advantage, slipping it into Lewandowski who is free. The Pole takes a touch to set himself and chips it over Muller. It gets a slight deflection off the keeper which slows the ball down, and the ball is cleared off the line!
59' But that wasn't a bad effort from Kunde. The ball is played into him directly in front of goal from a long way out and he decides to hit it along the floor. It hits a defender's leg early in its path, though, and bounces up, landing on the roof of the net. From the corner, Neuer collects a header easily.
58' Mainz now have a mountain to climb, you feel, if they are to get back into this game. Bayern are cruising at 3-1 and don't look half as frail at the back as they were for parts of that first half.
Á. Szalai
J. Burkardt
56' Mainz make their second change of the afternoon, with Szalai coming on for his debut and replacing Burkardt up top. It's an attacking change for Mainz and it could signal a change of game plan.
I. Perišić
Goal
54' GOAL! Perisic makes it 3-1 to Bayern! Coman finds Pavard on the right flank and the full-back teases a deep cross towards the back post. Perisic is there and he leaps high to get his head on it, with his effort being palmed onto the bar by Muller. The shot hits the underside of the bar, though, and goes in. 3-1!
B. Pavard
Assist
54' Pavard has played brilliantly today and he is involved again here, playing a great cross into the back post for Perisic to get his head to.
52' Coman gets some space down the right flank and whips in a cross towards Lewandowski. It's played in a bit too close to Muller, though, and the keeper beats it away.
51' It is only Burkardt and Boetius who are doing the pressing for Mainz when they don't have the ball. Elsewhere, the visitors are sitting back.
50' Mainz lose the ball through some sloppy passing and it falls to Thiago, who spots Lewandowski with a couple of yards of space just outside the box. The ball is played forward at pace to the forward, but the ball rolls through his feet and Muller collects.
50' Mainz have begun this second half as they began the first, trying to press the Bayern players. But the hosts, having witnessed how costly any lapse of concentration can be, are much more aware of it in this half.
48' Compared to the pace the game was being played at at the end of that first half, Bayern seem much more settled early on in the second period.
46' Bayern kick us off for the second half. Here we go!
P. Kunde
D. Latza
46' Mainz make a change at half-time, with Latza coming on for Kunde.
Bayern have already experienced just how dangerous Boetius and Pierre-Gabriel are in attack, and will be more wary of Mainz going forward in the second half. What's more, the hosts are much better going forward than their opponents - with Mainz's goal their only real threat so far - meaning if Kovac's side can keep Boetius quiet and limit the service he gets, they will likely be able to grab another goal and ensure that the three points are theirs.
Well, that was a frantic end to the first half and, overall, Bayern are worthy of their 2-1 lead at the break. They were slow to come out of the blocks and paid for it within six minutes when Boetius caught Pavard fast asleep inside his own box and powered a header past Neuer from a Pierre-Gabriel cross. It took the hosts half an hour to find their feet, but when they did there was no stopping them. Pavard made up for his earlier defensive error by finishing well on the half-volley from a Perisic cross from the left, before Alaba - who had missed an earlier free-kick from a similar position - guided the dead ball into the top corner from just outside the box, leaving Muller stranded.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 2-1 MAINZ
45' + 1' Another chance to make it three comes and goes for Bayern, and they almost do extend their advantage right before the break. Coutinho receives the ball on the left-hand side of the 18-yard box and fizzes a cross into the box. It is a good height for Muller, though, and the keeper palms it out of danger with Thiago in close attendance.
D. Alaba
Goal
45' GOAL! Alaba takes the free-kick and it is a fantastic effort, curling perfectly into the top corner! The ball rises over the wall and dips again, with Muller unable to get anywhere near it. 2-1!
A. Hack
Yellow Card
44' Hack is the second Mainz player to receive a yellow card. Lewandowski races away with the ball after Mainz lose it and in an attempt to get back and recover, Hack makes a mess of the challenge and gives away a free-kick in a very dangerous position on the edge of the area.
44' Bayern have a free-kick in a similar position to the one Alaba took earlier in the game.
44' Compared to how Bayern started the game, their passing has been a lot slicker and they are getting in more dangerous positions now, with Coman and Perisic causing problems down the flanks.
42' More good play from Bayern and they finally look in the mood. This time, Coman nicks the ball away and races upfield, side-stepping Martin and almost getting past him before the defender recovers to make the challenge.
40' Coutinho goes over to take a corner for Bayern and as he swings it in, Sule goes for a header but his effort is wide of the goal.
38' Bayern are totally on top now and look like they will get another goal very soon. Mainz need to hold firm and regroup.
B. Pavard
Goal
36' GOAL! Bayern have their equaliser and it comes from Pavard! Perisic finds himself in space down the left again and he lofts a cross over a bunch of players into the box. Pavard does not rise like the others do, meaning he is there when those nearby miss it to let it bounce and hit it on the half volley from about 10 yards out. Pavard's shot rises up off the ground which does for Muller, who cannot stop the ball going into the back of the net. 1-1!
I. Perišić
Assist
36' Perisic has got himself involved down this left-hand side a lot more in the past few minutes and this time, he is rewarded for his effort as his cross into the box is met on the half-volley by Pavard.
34' Another good cross from Bayern, this time from Perisic on the left. He cuts inside and beats his man, before whipping a ball into the box. Coutinho runs onto it but Hack gets there before him and the ball is cleared.
33' SAVED! Alaba takes the free kick and it's a good effort, curling over the wall. But Muller gets down well to beat it away and Mainz clear any threat of a rebound.
M. Niakhaté
Yellow Card
33' Niakhate is next to be carded for a challenge on Lewandowski on the edge of the area.
33' This is a good chance for Bayern. Lewandowski advances forward to just outside the box and is tripped by Niakhate. The hosts have a free-kick about 25 yards out directly facing Muller's goal.
32' This is more like it from the reigning champions. They are beginning to turn the screw a bit more and cause Mainz a few more problems than they had done earlier in the game.
30' GREAT CHANCE! This is Bayern's best opening of the game so far. The hosts work it wide across the pitch to Perisic on the left, who enters the 18-yard box. He has time to take one or two touches to set himself with Muller set well at his near post. Perisic shoots with his left foot and it curls round the side netting. Had he used his right foot, Perisic may have been able to curl it round the other way into the bottom corner and away from where Muller was positioned.
29' Coman is still trying to get balls into the box down the right and this time he finds a bit of space on the edge of the area, with Coutinho waiting in the middle to receive a cross. But his pass is blocked.
27' That was a lovely move from Bayern and it almost came off. Hernandez passed it to Coutinho, who then made a 1-2 with Lewandowski inside the 18-yard box but the Brazilian could not get the ball out of his feet in time and it was cleared.
26' As we approach the half-hour mark, Bayern don't look any closer to scoring an equaliser. Coman's two crosses from the right are the only threat they have posed so far, but they have both been easy to deal with.
24' There is a brief stoppage in play for a drinks break and we are now back underway.
23' Bayern are beginning to threaten down their right-hand side with Coman again swinging in a cross from that flank. Lewandowski is perched at the back post and leaps to get the ball under control, but the cross has too much on it.
22' From the free-kick awarded after Kimmich's challenge, the ball is played into the box by Mainz but Burkardt is penalised after the ball strikes his hand.
J. Kimmich
Yellow Card
20' Kimmich is the first man to go into referee Markus Schmidt's book this afternoon after sliding in and catching Burkardt.
20' The Bayern pressure is not stopping, with Hernandez and Sule now advancing to the centre circle when their side have the ball. However, Mainz are holding firm.
18' Despite their team being a goal down, the Bayern fans are in full voice and are creating a great atmosphere inside the Allianz Arena.
16' After the goal, it's been all Bayern. They have dominated possession since going behind but have done very little with it. That Lewandowski shot which went wide is the closest Kovac's side have come so far.
15' That's better from Bayern. Coman swings a dangerous cross in from the left and while there is no-one in the box to get on the end of it, the pace on the ball causes Niakhate to whack it clear for a corner, which is easily dealt with.
13' Mainz have lost more matches (19) and conceded more goals (70) against Bayern than against any other Bundesliga club. But here, it's Bayern who don't look like scoring at the moment.
11' The hosts look disjointed in attack. This time, Coutinho tries to flick it towards Coman, but the ball rolls out for a goal-kick. Then, Coman, down the right-hand side, fizzes a ball towards Perisic, who can't control it and Mainz get a throw-in.
10' The pressing that Mainz are doing is really working. Bayern seem unable to create anything meaningful going forward and are passing it around the back most of the time.
8' The goal has made Bayern a lot more alert and they have suddenly pushed forward. They weren't expecting that goal.
J. Boëtius
Goal
6' GOAL! Wow! Mainz take a surprise lead here at the Allianz Arena! It's a fantastic goal and the move is all started by Pierre-Gabriel, who paces down the right-hand flank and whips a cross into the box. Boetius runs onto it from behind Pavard, who is totally unaware of his opponent's presence, and the striker powers a header past Neuer, who was a spectator! 1-0!
R. Pierre-Gabriel
Assist
6' Pierre-Gabriel does brilliantly here to run into space on the right-hand side and whip in a lovely cross, which Boetius gobbles up.
6' It looked as if Bayern were settling into the contest in the first few minutes, but that snapshot from Lewandowski has brought them - and the game - to life.
4' JUST WIDE! But there we go, it doesn't take much for Lewandowski to get himself in the game. Here, he finds himself on the edge of the box right in front of the goal in space and he gets the ball out of his feet with his first touch before curling one just wide of Muller's left-hand post.
3' When Mainz have the ball, they are looking especially dangerous down the right hand side and Baku is making some nice passes in between the lines, but there is no real threat as of yet. Bayern haven't done anything of note so far.
2' Mainz have started aggressively and are pressing the Bayern players all across the pitch, but the hosts are dealing with it well.
1' Mainz kick us off for the first half. Here we go!
The players are making their way out onto the field, so kick-off should not be too far away now.
Lewandowski – who signed a new contract with Bayern in midweek – has scored all of his side’s five league goals so far this term, including a hat-trick against Shalke. If the Polish international can net another hat-trick in this afternoon’s game, he will beat the record held by a certain Gerd Muller for the number of goals scored (7) in the opening three matchdays of a German football season.
Mainz boss Sandro Schwarz makes three changes to the side that lost to Monchengladbach last weekend. At right-back, Pierre-Gabriel comes in for Brosinski, Baku replaces Kunde in midfield and Quaison loses his place up front to Burkardt, despite scoring in last week’s game. Szalai, who re-signed for Mainz earlier in the week, could come on up front in the second half to make his first appearance of his second spell with the club.
After giving Philippe Coutinho his debut in the second half of the 3-0 win over Schalke last weekend, Bayern boss Niko Kovac hands the Brazilian his first full start this afternoon in place of Tolisso. He is one of two players to come into midfield, with Muller dropping out for Thiago, who has recovered from injury. Elsewhere, Bayern go with the same back four that won last time out, while up front Perisic is also handed his first start as Gnabry drops to the bench.
SUBS: Taiwo Awoniyi, Daniel Brosinski, Adam Szalai, Robin Quaison, Alexandru Maxim, Levin Öztunali, Pierre Kunde, Robin Zentner, Jeremiah St. Juste.
MAINZ (4-3-3): Florian Muller; Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel, Moussa Niakhate, Alexander Hack, Aaron Martin; Edimilson Fernandes, Ridle Baku, Danny Latza; Karim Onisiwo, Jean-Paul Boetius, Jonathan Burkardt.
SUBS: Alphonso Davies, Javi Martinez. Jerome Boateng, Sven Ulreich, Thomas Muller, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Corentin Tolisso, Michael Cuisance.
BAYERN MUNICH (4-3-3): Manuel Neuer; Benjamin Pavard, Niklas Sule, Lucas Hernandez, David Alaba; Thiago Alcantara, Joshua Kimmich, Philippe Coutinho; Ivan Perisic, Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman.
Bayern were frustrated by Hertha Berlin in a 2-2 draw in their opening league game, but the reigning champions impressed last time out with a 3-0 victory over Schalke. Mainz, meanwhile, have lost their opening two league games against SC Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach, respectively, conceding six goals in the process and scoring only one.
Hello and welcome to this live text commentary of the Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Mainz from the Allianz Arena.
