VfB ultras attack FCB fans! A fan brawl erupted before the southern derby between Stuttgart and Bayern, leaving two police officers injured

As reported by Bild, fan groups clashed outside the stadium of the German record champions roughly two hours before kick-off (5:30 pm).

  • Stuttgart supporters allegedly lay in wait for Munich ultras at their designated meeting point on Südkurvenplatz and then launched an attack. FCB fans responded in kind: several hundred supporters, some of them also masked, confronted the intruders. The resulting stand-off escalated into violent clashes.

Police deployed several hundred officers to contain the violence, and two officers were injured while trying to cordon off the VfB ultras. The situation was eventually brought under control, with around 150 Stuttgart supporters arrested; according to Bild, some had travelled to Munich solely to participate in the disturbances.

The ultra group ‘Commando Cannstatt 1997’ later announced that the scene would boycott the match due to a “police operation”, leaving the stadium without organised support for the full 90 minutes.

“According to current information, a physical altercation took place between Ultras from VfB Stuttgart and FC Bayern Munich. The police were able to bring the situation under control. Around 100 people are currently subject to police measures. Further action will now be coordinated with the public prosecutor’s office,” police spokesman Thomas Schelshorn told Bild.
