Igor Stimac's men went down 3-0 against a much superior Vietnam in an international friendly match on Tuesday.

Phan Van Duc, Nguyen Van Toan and Nguyen Van Quyet were on target as the hosts outclassed India at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Hochi Minh City, Vietnam

After an impressive 4-0 win over Singapore in their previous friendly game, Park Hang-seo's side started the match as favourites. It took them just 10 minutes to break the deadlock as Van Duc found the back of the net from a rebound inside the Indian box.

Sunil Chhetri was unlucky to miss the target by a whisker at the stroke of halftime when he failed to keep his header from close range on target.

The Blue Tigers come back from their Vietnam trip with a draw and a defeat.

  • Ashique Kuruniyan India

    The Winners

Akash Mishra: The Hyderabad FC full-back was one of the very few bright spots for India tonight. The youngster worked relentlessly down the left flank and created several chances.

Ashique Kuruniyan: In a 3-5-2 formation, Ashique Kuruniyan was slotted in as a second striker alongside skipper Sunil Chhetri by Igor Stimac. Kuruniyan did well upfront and even came close to scoring on a few occasions.

  • Anwar Ali India Singapore International Friendly

    The Losers

Sandesh Jhingan & Anwar Ali: The two central defenders had a night to forget against Vietnam. Anwar Ali was to be blamed for the second goal as being the last man, he failed to intercept an aerial ball and Nguyen Van Toan skipped past the defender to score.

Jhingan too looked shaky against a very fast Vietnam attack and could not keep them at bay for the majority of the game. He was also at fault during the third goal when his headed clearance went straight to Nguyen Van Quyet inside the box who found the back of the net.

    Indian Ratings: Defence

    Rating: 3/10

It was a defensive horror show by the Indians who were completely outclassed and outpaced by a technically superior Vietnam side.

Igor Stimac fielded a three-man defence at the beginning with Chinglensana Singh and Sandesh Jhingan back in the starting lineup but it was not enough to stop the hosts who toyed with the Indian backline for a good part of the game.

  • Sahal Abdul Samad Ashique Kuruniyan India

    Rating: 6/10

The Indian midfield had an average outing and was possibly the only department where the Blue Tigers did moderately well. Jeakson Singh and Anirudh Thapa as the two pivots in central midfield did their best to block the Vietnamese attacks. They even created a few chances during counterattacks.

Sahal Abdul Samad, who played in the hole behind the two forwards, did not make much of an impact and was replaced in the 38th minute with his Kerala Blasters teammate Rahul KP after picking up an injury.

  • Sunil Chhetri India 2022

    Rating: 5/10

The strikers had very few goalscoring chances in the opponent's box. The closest the Indian attackers came to scoring was when Sunil Chhetri failed to keep his header on target from a close range and Rahul KP failed to get to the end of Liston Colaco's pass right in front of the goal towards the end of the match.
