A first half Thaban Kamusoko’s free kick helped Yanga to seal a 1-0 victory over Mbao to end their nine games winless run in all competition.

This is the first win for Yanga under Caretaker coaches Noel Mwandila and Shadrack Nsajigwa who have led the team since the departure of their former Head Coach George Lwandamina. The club went on to a run of six defeats and draw three times.

The win against Mbao helped Yanga to reach 51 points but they still remain in third place, four points behind Azam who have played one more game.

In the match against Mbao, both teams had little to play for, with Yanga having lost their league title to Simba, Mbao were all but assured of their safety to remain in the top flight for next season after beating 1-0 Stand United last Friday.

It took until the 28th minute for the Jangwani club to break the deadlock when veteran midfielder Kamusoko curled home a sumptuous free kick from 25 yards out.

Mbao remained undeterred, though and should have levelled 10 minutes later, but Rajesh Kotesha could only head directly to goalkeeper Youthe Rostand.

Yanga’s second half substitution Matheo Anthony who came on to replace Yusuph Mhilu will have no one to blame than himself after a series of clear chance misses including one that hit the post.

The Jangwani outfit will now switch their attention to another home game against Ruvu Shooting on Friday.
