Willard Katsande optimistic despite Kaizer Chiefs' slow start

Kaizer Chiefs may be down but they are certainly not out, according to influential midfielder Willard Katsande.

Chiefs are yet to register their first league win of the 2018/19 PSL season, having played four, drawn three and suffered one defeat.

This has happened in spite of Amakhosi bolstering their squad in the off-season and bringing on board Italian mentor Giovanni Solinas to fill the void left by former coach Steve Komphela.

However, while the results might not be forthcoming and the pressure beginning to build, one of Chiefs' senior players remains unfazed.

“We’ve been playing some fantastic football lately, but we have failed to complement it with wins,” Katsande was quoted as saying by Daily Sun.

“This is just a minor slump. We’ve been here before and I believe there isn’t much that we need to do to fix our game,” he added.

While Chiefs have shown signs of improvement, scoring goals and conceding cheaply appear to be their biggest downfall.

“We’ve conceded soft goals and we are happy to have had our first clean sheet against Maritzburg. Now, our focus is to ensure that we work on our execution in front of goal. Coach Giovanni Solinas has also said it, we need to be clinical in front of goal,” the Zimbabwean said.

“All is not lost. We know there is pressure but we also know what is expected of us. We need to dust ourselves off and do what is necessary,” a determined Katsande expressed.

“The positive thing that we are taking from these matches is that we are managing to create chances; our only problem is that we haven’t utilised them. It would have been a mountain to climb if we were not creating those chances. All we need to do now is to focus on our next match and try to win it,” concluded the 32-year-old.
