West Ham plot move to sign midfielder Victor Wanyama from Tottenham in January

West Ham United have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama in January.

The Kenyan has fallen out of favour with Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino after a succession of injuries, and is yet to start a game in the Premier League for the North London outfit this season.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been limited to five appearances off the bench despite being a key player for the side, after he joined from Southampton and was a regular partner for Mousa Dembele as the team finished second in the Premier League.

Football Insider now reports that the Hammers are keen to take advantage of the Kenyan captain’s fringe status at Spurs as they look to bolster their squad in the winter window. The site adds that the West Ham recruitment team have shortlisted Wanyama as they look to bring in a central midfielder.

Spurs will be very keen to not lose a key player to a London rival in the new year, but Wanyama may be keen to get back playing regularly, something that the Hammers would certainly be able to offer.

Wanyama joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be in the region of £11 million, and he has since gone on to chalk up 76 appearances in all competitions.

The latest development means that West Ham have now joined a host of top European clubs that have shown keen interest to land the services of the player. Others are Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and AS Roma.
