Tunde Abdulrahman believes his Kogi United side still stand a chance of reaching the quarterfinal of this year’s Federation Cup despite Wednesday’s late 1-0 defeat to Akwa United.

Prior to the contest, the Confluence Boys played out a 0-0 draw with Nasarawa United and almost held the champions to a draw in the quest to step up their qualification chances.

However, it was Victory Mboama’s last minute finish that condemned the nation’s second division side to their first defeat in this year’s competition and puts them in third on the log.

Ahead of Wikki Tourist clash on Friday, the Lokoja based side gaffer feels they can advance if they can replicate their good form in the opening games against the Bauchi Elephants.

"It's a painful result because we should have earn a point against Akwa United,” Abdulrahman told Goal.

“I think it was just moment of loss concentration, the defender left his and allowed Imenger to cross, but I'm happy with our overall performance from us.

"We saw Akwa United are a very tactical side, but we had our good moments. Wikki are a very strong side, but we will be ready for them and make sure we take our chances

"We won’t let the way we came into the match affected us because I told the boys that if we can get this far and set a quarterfinal target which is still achievable. I like their fighting spirit which really give us hope going forward.

"It's not that over for us, if the team played the way we approached Wednesday's game, I think we still stand a chance of qualifying to the quarterfinal by beating Wikki Tourist.”
