Victor Wanyama receives praise from Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino singled out Kenyan Victor Wanyama and his midfield partner Moussa Sissoko for praise after Spurs booked a place in the Uefa Champions League next season.

Spurs clinched a top-four finish with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday and the Argentine manager picked the duo for their contributions to the team's success after a tough season of struggle with injuries.

“Players like (Victor) Wanyama who haven’t played too much, they were injured and today when you need to win they were there on the pitch giving their best.

“I am so proud about all the players because today for me one of the best was Moussa Sissoko. I want to say thank you for how professional he was all season. Not too many people recognise him but I think he was fantastic today."

Despite being limited to a just a couple of games this season due to a prolonged injury early in the first leg, Pochettino believes that the Kenyan Captain played a pivotal role in Spurs’ fourth-place finish.

“When we talk about the squad and how important it is in the season to respect them and treat them in the right way and today they were present and they played so well and they are part of the success of the team to finish in the top four for the third consecutive time,’ Pochettino was quoted by the sbnation.com.

Spurs are four points above Chelsea with only one game left on the card.
