Sofapaka suffered a huge blow in their bid to challenge for the title after they went down 2-1 to Tusker on Monday.

The game was forced to a replay after it was called off on Sunday owing to the heavy rains that pounded the city and its environs.

Tusker came from behind to force the win after Batoto ba Mungu took a deserved lead in the 37th minute through Kevin Kimani but  Timothy Otieno cancelled the lead before David Juma sealed the points.

Kimani put Sofapaka ahead with a simple header but former Gor Mahia striker, Otieno hit an equalizer from the spot after a Sofapaka defender handled the ball inside the box.

Otieno  then turned from scorer to provider when he set up Juma just two minutes later for the match-winning goal.

Otieno was later denied by Yusuf Mohammed in the 51st minute as the marauding forward operated freely in Sofapaka danger area. The victory also left coach Robert Matano with all the bragging rights over his former player, John Baraza with whom they won KPL title with Sofapaka in 2009.

Tusker’s victory is a major blow to Sofapaka’s title quest that left them 12 points adrift of leaders Gor Mahia, who have 52 points from 20 games.

A win for Batoto Ba Mungu , would have chopped off K’Ogalo’s lead to within nine points while Tusker moved to eighth place in the log on 33 points.
