After falling short of luring Fernando Torres to the A-League, Football Federation Australia must turn their attention elsewhere.

Eager to bring more than just one big-name to the competition, the FFA has a number of targets in their sights - including Keisuke Honda and even Peter Crouch.

But here are ten other players that could also be worth approaching.

Yaya Toure

He's desperate to remain in the Premier League after a lean few years with Manchester City, but the midfielder is currently a free agent. At 35 and with a lack of match minutes, Toure will prove a hard sell in Europe's top flight. In comparison, he'd be an undisputed star Down Under and no A-League club would ever forget his birthday.

Samir Nasri

Another former Manchester City player now without a home. The French midfielder was handed a six-month ban by UEFA in February for using drip treatment back in 2016 making him an ideal man to tap on the shoulder for an A-League stint. While the 31-year-old may feel he's still capable of competing in Europe and was most recently at Turkish side Antalyaspor, a season in Australia could be just was he needs to get his career back on track.

Glen Johnson

The 33-year-old right back is without a club after his contract with Stoke City expired.

With a Premier League title to his name when he played for the Chelsea and over 50 caps for England, Johnson would certainly bring some prestige to the A-League.

Alex Song

Song was with Barcelona just two years ago, but after a nightmare stint in Russia is a free agent and in need of some confidence.

A stint in the A-League would give him just that, not to mention guaranteed money with the midfielder reportedly owed millions by FC Rubin Kazan.

Bryan Ruiz

After just playing in the World Cup for Costa Rica, Ruiz looms as one way the A-League can cash in on the interest in the competition.  Most recently with Sporting CP in Portugal, the 32-year-old spent four years with Fulham and while he might not be a household name, remains a very classy player.

Patrice Evra

Undoubtedly in his twilight at 37, Evra can go out with a bang should he join the A-League. A free agent after a short stint at West Ham, the French defender has played at the peak of European football for many years winning a Champions League title with Manchester United and silverware in both Italy and France.

Darren Bent

He may not have had the glittering career of Torres, but Bent has been just as lethal in front of goal for many years and would be a weapon worth watching in the A-League. The 34-year-old is without a club after a stint with Derby County and has spent his entire career to date in England.

John Terry

Say what you will about the former Chelsea captain, but he's a class defender and one way or another will raise some eyebrows in the A-League. After exiting Aston Villa, Terry looks like he's heading to Scotland but why not tempt him Down Under?

Benoit Assou-Ekotto

The headlines were saying he wanted to be a future porn star just a few months ago, but after being released by Metz, Assou-Ekotto can still get people excited on the pitch. Outspoken and with an unmistakable mop of hair, the 34-year-old would certainly stand out in the A-League and with over 150 games for Tottenham to his name is capable of drawing in the crowds.

Giuseppe Rossi

The 31-year-old Italian striker is a free agent after a recent stint with Genoa.  While never quite living up to his promise, Rossi did start his career with Manchester United and has been scoring regularly in Europe's top flight for over a decade.
