Nakumatt FC have defeated Ushuru FC by a solitary goal in the play-off first leg match played at Camp Toyoyo on Friday.

The shoppers needed a Tom Adwar strike to seal the win and put his team in the driving seat ahead of the second leg set for Sunday at Kasarani. Nakumatt needs at least two goals without reply in the second leg to keep their status in the Kenyan Premier League for the 2018/19 season.

The Ken Kenyatta led side finished the 2018 National Super League with 69 points and claimed the play-off position against Nakumatt, who finished 16th in the KPL. Western Stima finished as champions with KCB finishing second, and as a result they were automatically promoted to the top tier.

Thika United and Wazito FC have been relegated to the NSL after finishing in the last two positions in the KPL.
