Senegal forward Mbaye Niang backs coach Aliou Cisse's contract to realise Afcon title demands

Senegal and Rennes forward Mbaye Niang has thrown his support behind realising coach Aliou Cisse’s contract which states that the Teranga Lions must win next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Cisse extended his Senegal contract in July after agreeing to a deal that demanded he guides the West Africans to Afcon triumph next year.

Senegal have already qualified for Cameroon 2019 with two games to spare and Niang feels Senegal “must” emerge as African champions.

"Senegal must win Afcon,” Niang was quoted as saying by WiwSport.

“This is our dream and we must not hide our faces. We cannot have any other ambition. We must play this competition to win because we are part of the teams that can win.

“But, as we say, in football, you never know. Senegal must enter the field with this winning spirit. We are very much in the big clubs and we have to get ready.”

Although they failed to advance from the group stages at the 2018 Fifa World Cup in June, Senegal are tipped a one of the favourites at the 2019 Afcon tournament.

Their best outing at the Afcon tournament was finishing as runners-up in 2002 after losing the final to Cameroon.

Senegal visit Equatorial Guinea next month in their penultimate Afcon qualifier which Cisse would use to already prepare his side for Cameroon 2019.
