Polokwane City will be eyeing to pick up their first home win of the season when they take on bottom-dwellers Bidvest Wits while Ajax Cape Town will be eager to move out of the drop zone against an in-form Chippa United outfit.

Polokwane City vs Bidvest Wits

A relegation battle will see Polokwane City and Bidvest Wits meet in a PSL encounter at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Rise and Shine dropped to third at the bottom of the PSL standings after suffering a 1-0 home defeat to Platinum Stars in midweek, and are now just one point adrift of their opposition who are rock bottom.

Bernard Molekwa’s charges are winless in four league matches and are in 14th spot with 11 points from 12 matches.

The Limpopo side’s performances have taken a rather unfortunate turn of late after they had made it to the semifinals of the Telkom Knockout, beating Mamelodi Sundowns and avoided defeats to both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Molekwa and his team could see themselves out of the danger zone if they beat Wits on Saturday and will need PSL top scorer Rodney Ramagalela and Rendani Ndou, who have 10 goals amongst them, to lead their team to their first home victory.

The Clever Boys were held to a goalless draw at home by Ajax Cape Town in midweek which kept them rooted at the bottom of the PSL standings and extend their winless run in the league to four matches.

Despite their recent success where they won the Telkom Knockout Cup, Gavin Hunt will want his side to quickly forget about that triumph and get back to winning ways so as to avoid still being in the drop zone when they go into the festive-season break.

Wits have accumulated 10 points from 12 matches and a win will only see them move a point above the relegation zone.

Captain Thulani Hlatshwayo and winger Vincent Pule have been on form for the Students and will be relied upon once again to help their side bring an abrupt end of four encounters without a victory.

In head-to-head stats, Polokwane and Wits have met in eight league matches since 2013/14. The Braamfontein side has won four matches compared to just one for Rise and Shine, while three matches have been drawn.

Last season the Clever Boys took four points off City, holding them to a 0-0 draw in Limpopo, before recording a 2-0 win at home in the return fixture in Johannesburg.

Ajax Cape Town vs Chippa United

Ajax Cape Town will be looking to ease their relegation woes when they go in search of maximum points against an in-form Chippa United side at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday.

The Urban Warriors were forced to move their tie to Johannesburg due to the temporary closure of the Athlone Stadium, while the Cape Town Stadium has been booked for the World Rugby Sevens tournament.

Stanley Menzo’s team has now gone four league matches without a win, and come off a 0-0 draw with the Clever Boys in midweek.

Ajax are placed in 15th position with 10 points from 12 matches but can move out of the drop zone if they beat the high-flying Chippa.

This has also been as a result of lack of goals. The Mother City side has only scored four goals in their last seven matches and conceded 15 goals in the process.

Ajax captain Mosa Lebusa has been one of the players who have stood out to be counted whenever the chips are down and will be eager to rally his charges to go all out for a win.

The Chilli Boys are in brimming confidence after they defeated Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in midweek to stretch their unbeaten run in the league to an impressive 10 matches.

A win for Teboho Moloi’s charges saw them move up to second place on the PSL log standings with 19 points together with log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The visitors have picked up just a single win away from home this season (2-0 at Wits in November), and will be glad to be returning to the same venue.

Mark Mayambela’s return to the fold has helped his side with numbers going forward and the former Ajax man teamed up well with his former teammate Abel Mabaso for the decisive goal against the Glamour Boys and will now look to repeat the same feat when they take on their former Cape employers.

The home side has a good record against the Eastern Cape-based outfit. In eight ties, Ajax have won four matches with just one win for the Chilli Boys with three matches been drawn.

Ajax completed a league double over Chippa last season, winning both fixtures 1-0.
