Tanzania skipper Mbwana Samatta has missed a chance to get his hands on his first piece of silverware in Belgium as his team KRC Genk was defeated 1-0 by Standard Liege in Belgium Cup Final on Saturday.
Samatta who joined the side from TP Mazembe of DRC Congo in 2016 came on 15 minutes before the final whistle to replace Nikolaos Karelis.
The game ended goalless in the normal 90 minutes and extra time was added were Standard Liege’s Renaud Emond scored the winner in the 92nd minute.
The two sides have almost identical records in the Jupiler League. Genk are fifth, one place above Standard in the table on goal difference alone.
Both sides have 44 points on the board after 30 matches this season. This was the reason the game was tough for both teams throughout the match.
Now Samatta will turn his attention to the National were Tanzania will play two friendly matches against Algeria on March 22 and DRC Congo on March 27.
