Kenya just need a point to seal a place in the 2019 Afcon finals in Cameroon

Sam Nyamweya has challenged the government to take seriously sports development in the country.

Reacting after Harambee Stars beat Ethiopia in the ongoing Afcon qualifiers, on Sunday, the former FKF boss called on the federation to work together in preparing the team for future assignments.

“I urge the government and Football Kenya Federation to work together to ensure that the challenges the team faced during this international break do not recur because they affect the morale of the team,” Nyamweya said in a statement.

“Against all odds, the boys performed exemplarily well to see off Ethiopia to move closer to qualification for Africa's premier football showpiece for the first time in 15 years.

"In the victory, the team has demonstrated that with better support and preparations the sky can only be the beginning of the journey to success."

Nyamweya further saluted Kenyan fans for turning up in large numbers to support the team in the 3-0 victory at the Kasarani Stadium.

“I urge for stakeholders to do more to develop the game of football in Kenya because there is great potential if we can invest in talent nurturing because that is where we can guarantee ourselves of good talent through the leagues and other structures.

“Once again, I pay tribute to the boys for a job well done and wish them all the best in the remaining matches of the Road to Cameroon.”

Kenya tops the Group F with seven points and Sebastien Migne men will just require a point to seal a place in the 2019 Afcon finals.
