The Pride of Rivers will be deprived the chance of using three of their best players when they face Abia Comets in a return leg tie

Emeka Nwabulu, Samson Gbadebo and Emeka Ogbugh are among Rivers United’s first team players who will be absent when they face Abia Comets on Wednesday evening in Umuahia.

The lower league side shocked the Pride of Rivers 2-0 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt last weekend and they will have another opportunity again to redeem their image on Wednesday during the return leg tie.

The skipper of the team, Austin Festus informed that they are struggling with injuries to key players ahead of the tie but that they are storming Umuahia with the mindset to correct some of the errors that led to their home loss.

He said that Nwabulu (knock), Gbadebo and Ogbugh (personal reasons) are among the high profile players that will miss the encounter but he opined that they have able replacements for them as they seek the scalp of Abia Comets in Umuahia.

“We are about leaving for Umuahia for the game because it is a very important game for us,” Festus told Goal.

“We lost to them at home but that is football for you where the unexpected can happen to you. We have seen where our mistakes lie and are ready to make amends. We are delighted that we have another chance to prove ourselves.

“We are not on a vengeful mission to Umuahia but we want to set the record straight that we are not a bad side. We will like to give a good account of ourselves.

“We are struggling with injuries to some of our players like Samson (Gbadebo), Emeka (Ogbugh) who has personal issues to deal with and Emeka Nwabulu. We will be travelling without them but we are optimistic of a good result.”
