Ramahlwe Mphahlele: Kaizer Chiefs want to do well in the MTN8

Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele says he comes from a team where winning is a culture and wants to help Amakhosi regain their glory.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns right-back revealed that the 2018/19 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season is a perfect opportunity for them to lift trophies.

'Rama' was speaking to PowerFM ahead of their MTN8 Cup clash against SuperSport United on Sunday afternoon.

With Chiefs having the likes of Khama Billiat, Lebogang Manyama and Mario Booysen, the Bafana Bafana defender said they are now a better team.

“Doing well in the MTN8 will be good. We will not duck and dive and we want to do well in this competition,” Mphahlele said to PowerFM Sport.

“It is the start of a new era - we have a new coach. Now we have Lebo Manyama, Mario and there is Khama, but we need time to work on the philosophy to deliver the trophies,” he added.

“We have to work hard and do it for the fans, they have been here and it will be a good present for their patience,” said Mphahlele.

“You look at the economic situation of the country. It is not easy to buy a ticket and the fans use their last money to come watch us,” continued the defender.

“We owe them hard work and trophies and we will not be here without our fans; they are important to us. They are not the people who stay in Sandton, but are township people who use their last money. We have to repay them,” he reacted.

“I am coming from a team (Sundowns) where we were winning. I believe I can win here and I believe we will achieve and we will win trophies,” he responded.

Speaking about his teammate in Siphiwe Tshabalala's possible move, the Amakhosi defender said the players are not aware of any possible move because the 33-year-old is still training with them.

The left-footed winger has been linked with a move to Turkish SuperLig side BB Erzurumspor as both clubs have reportedly agreed on the transfer.

“He is training with us. We know nothing about Shabba leaving. A fan said I should take jersey number 14 [but] all I know is that he is here and he is still a Kaizer Chiefs player,” he concluded.
