Pitso Mosimane counting on experience in Sundowns' quest for league glory

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane is refusing to press panic buttons despite his side being five points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates.

It has not been the most convincing of campaigns for the defending Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions, who have only won four of their last 10 games played this season and have drawn six games.

Most recently, Sundowns played out to a goalless draw with Orlando Pirates, prior to the international break, but Mosimane is not too concerned as he is relying on his team’s experience to take Sundowns over the line this season.

"We know how to win the championship league. We have big experience in the championship league,” Mosimane was quoted as saying by Sport24.

Although, Sundowns may not be dominating opposition, Mosimane and his men remain unbeaten. Sundowns have not lost a game in their last 23 league outings, and Mosimane has chosen to liken the league title race to the gruelling Comrades Marathon- a road-running race where leading from the start is not always the best option.

"We know how to win it. We know when it is going to open. It is like the Comrades, it's a marathon. Somebody can take the lead and you sit behind and wait,” Mosimane added.

"You make sure you are not out from the leading position," he concluded.

While the 54-year-old has his eye set on league supremacy, his focus will now need to shift as the Caf Champions League returns.

First up for the Tshwane giants is a trip to Equatorial Guinea for a first leg preliminary encounter against Leones Vegetarianos, and Mosimane will hope to guide his team to victory as they look to keep their hopes of another continental title alive.
