The Super Falcons start their quest to secure back-to-back triumphs when they faceoff with Bayana Bayana in Sunday's group opener

Nigeria women captain Onome Ebi assures that the Super Falcons are ready to retain the Africa Women's Cup of Nations title in Ghana.

The reigning champions start their campaign against archrivals South Africa at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.

Thomas Dennerby's side also have to negotiate their way past Zambia and Equatorial Guinea to stand a chance of retaining their title.

And the China-based defender, who will be leading the Super Falcons against Bayana Bayana, assured that lack of top friendlies will not hinder their ultimate goal.

"Definitely, every player wants the situation where you play top friendlies before major tournaments," Ebi told Goal.

"You don't always care about the result or the opponents because we want just to play together.

"We won't let that get to us because we know some of the situations why we could not play games like the top friendlies we desired.

"We believe that the little time we've had [in camp] and how we always talked to ourselves to always do extra training at our various clubs outside.

"This is because it will difficult to come together to have top friendlies. So that when we come together, the long period of not playing games will not affect us too much."

She further assured that her mates will bring the good form with various overseas clubs to the fore in their quest to excel at the women championship.

"One of our teammates, Faith Ikidi won the league title with her club in Sweden and when I came in I had to hug her to have the feel of her victory," she continued.

"When I joined the camp, the assistant captain [Rita Chikwelu] also told me that the girls are really doing very well for themselves.

"I think almost all the professional players did well with their various clubs was great and will really motivate the team.

"It will really help us hundred percent. With what I have seen so far, I think we are ready because we know what it takes to retain the title."
