Morocco coach Herve Renard says he is satisfied that they have covered enough as they prepare for their final friendly before heading to Russia.
Morocco will conclude their warm-up campaign against Estonia after traversing through Geneva, Casablanca, and Torino where they faced the likes of Serbia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Slovakia.
Late last month, Morocco defeated Serbia and Uzbekistan, 2-1 and 2-0 respectively in their pre-World Cup friendly games. Renard is now confident that they are ready to face the world in Russia.
“I will use the friendly against Estonia to check on my backline. We are good to go but still need to fix a few things. What we are fixing does not need weeks or months but just days. So we are good to go.”
That selection of friendly matches produced three wins and a draw for the African Nations’ champions to extend their unbeaten run to 17 games in all competitions. This will be their first ever meeting with the Estonians.
Estonia enjoyed their most successful qualifying campaign ever, only losing 50% of their games and finishing fourth in a group of six. However, World Cup participation remains a distant dream for the Baltic nation.
The Atlas Lions returned to the global stage for the first time in 20 years and have been paired with Iran and European heavyweights, Portugal and Spain in Group B.
Morocco will play their first game on June 15 in St. Petersburg against Iran. They will play their second group match against the Portuguese five days later on June 20 at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow. The Lions will close their first-round experience on June 25 with a game against Spain in Kaliningrad.
