The 29-year-old Shahdan previously played for Lions XII and Tampines, this move his first for a team outside of Singapore.

An experienced professional, Shahdan has gained over half a century of caps for the Singapore national team, often in the midfield department.

Melaka has renewed the contract of Jeon Woo-Young for the new season while completing moves for Portuguese Thiago Gomes and France's Steven Thicot.

In the latest friendly match played against UKM FC which Melaka won 5-0 last Thursday, two other Singaporeans in Hafiz Sujad and Faris Ramli were also being trialled.

Having signed Shahdan for the ASEAN slot, it doesn't mean that Melaka will be limiting their final import option as Goal understands that while Hafiz has dropped out of the reckoning, the management at Melaka are giving Faris a serious consideration.

It remains to be seen if head coach Eduardo Almeida will go for that option considering the sometimes disparity of quality between an ASEAN player compared to ones from either Europe or Latin America.

Melaka finished eight in the 2017 Super League and only managed to reach to quarterfinal stage of the Malaysia Cup.
