It meant that he has scored in Europe’s top competition at a younger age than the Arsenal legend, who also started his career at Monaco, but did not score at the elite level until he was 20, when he registered on his debut against Bayer Leverkusen.

Mbappe only turned 18 in December, which means that only Karim Benzema of his compatriots has struck at a younger age in the entire competition.

However, Benzema’s goal, which came against Rosenborg when he was 17 and 11 months, was a group-stage affair, and he would not find the target in the knockout rounds until he scored against Manchester United as a 20-year-old.
