KPL promotion battle moves the corridors of justice as Thika United runs to court

Thika United have moved to court to challenge the 2017 promotion playoff set for this week.

Thika United who finished 16th in the Kenyan Premier League last season are set to play Ushuru in a two-legged playoff that would determine who gets promoted to the top flight competition next season. Ushuru finished third in the National Super League.

But the Kiambu County side moved to the Sports Dispute Tribunal to stop the exercise that is slated for December 6 for the first leg with a return leg to come four days later.

But Thika contested FKF move to demote three teams,  arguing in their petition filed on Tuesday that the federation acted outside the laws which allow for automatic promotion-relegation of two and bottom two teams in the KPL and NSL respectively.

The milkmen now want FKF to abide by the 2015 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that allows two teams toe promoted with the same number dropping to the lower league.
