The Croatian left Kotoko in second place, one point behind Wafa.
"I was forced to resign from Asante Kotoko despite our good start," Lugarusic told Otec FM.
"I was at home when Kotoko people including Lawyer Boafo, Thomas Boakye Agyemang and Rosemond Padmore came with two letters insisting that I should sign and leave since the supporters didn't like my style of play. I asked about my severance package which they have paid me everything so there's no problem between I and them," he added.
Lugarusic also revealed that he did not recommend that his former assistant Michael Osei must be sacked despite rumours in the local media.
"I never asked Kotoko management to sack Michael Osei for Godwin Ablordey. I didn't also recommend the appointment of Shilla Alhassan as the team manager.
"I rather requested to bring on board my assistant coach but they said they can't afford the cost and promised me that they will bring on board some former players of the club to help. So it wasn't my decisions," he added.
Kotoko have appointed Steve Polack as the new coach until the end of the season with an option to extend one additional year if the two parties feel satisfied.
