Asante Kotoko have re-signed former midfielder Jordan Opoku in a one-year deal after having a successful two-week trial.

The 30-year-old left the club in 2016 after refusing to extend his contract in order to quit football and engage in evangelism for God but later rescinded his decision to sign for Armenian side Sakaeo FC.

With coach Steve Polack's failed attempts to sign 'top-notch' midfielders of his choice ahead of the new season, the Englishman gave Opoku the opportunity to have a trial and he impressed against rivals Hearts of Oak in the second leg of the Ghana @60 anniversary cup on Sunday.

Opoku admitted his excitement after signing the deal and promised to team up with his colleagues in order to have a decent campaign.

"We will be playing on both the local front and in Africa (Caf Confederations Cup) and that require a good team. I am here to do my part to help," Opoku told the club's website.

"Football is a team sport and so it won't take me alone to improve the team but the collective effort of everyone here," he said.

"I am here to do my part and I'm confident that my colleagues would also do theirs so that, together, we can put the team in a respectable position," he added.

Kotoko have also announced that youngster Douglas Owusu Ansah has been promoted to the senior team following his heroics with the U-20 side.

Opoku has become the fifth major signing by Kotoko following the arrival of Wahab Adams from Aduana Stars, Ivorian-import Mohammed Iddris Sylla, NEA Salamina's former captain Emmanuel Owusu and goalkeeper Michael Abu from Ebusua Dwarfs.
