A tragic news has emerged from the football-loving state of Kerala after Thursday night's World Cup game between Argentina and Croatia. Local media reports that Dinu Alex, who hails from Kottayam district in Kerala, has attempted suicide after Argentina's 3-0 loss at the hands of Croatia.
South American footballing countries have a huge number of fans in Kerala, a hotbed of football in India. And rivalries between Argentina and Brazil fans in the state is very common during World Cup season.
Police believe that Dinu Alex jumped into a nearby river named Meenachil and a search for him by the state Fire Force unit is on.
"The search is ongoing. On the basis of suspicion, we are searching the Meenachil river and the surrounding area.
"The police and Fire Force unit are on it (the case). We cannot confirm the motive (Argentina loss) but the search is definitely on," Kerala Police told Goal.
He had left a note after the game which read in Malayalam, "I've seen everything that had to be seen. What's there to see now? I'm diving into the depths."
The members of his family confirmed that Dinu is a hardcore fan of the Albiceleste. His father also told media that Dinu had expressed concern about facing trolls by friends if Argentina lost. The police also checked his mobile phone and found Messi's pictures.
The cops are also investigating the possibility that he might have run away from the area to avoid facing the abusive trolls.
