Jurgen Klopp: Record in cup finals and number of trophies won in his career

Jurgen Klopp's first trophy as a manager was the 2008 German Super Cup which he won with Borussia Dortmund after beating Bayern Munich 2-1. Although it was an unofficial tournament back then, it had huge significance for both sets of fans given the bitter rivalry that exists between the two sides.

The astute tactician guided them to two consecutive Bundesliga titles and also the 2012 DFB Pokal trophy by defeating Bayern 5-2.

Klopp had instilled a belief in his team that they can look Bayern in the eye and win. He had one of the youngest squads at his disposal and yet they were flourishing. In the next season, they beat Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semifinal and set up a date with Bayern Munich in the final. However, they lost the summit clash 2-1 which meant that the German manager had to wait longer for his first European trophy. His record in cup finals also suffered a setback.

However, Klopp went on to win two consecutive DFL Supercups (2013, 2014) before he finally bowed out of the Signal Iduna Park.

In 2015, when he came to Liverpool, he termed himself the 'Normal One' in his first press conference to parody Jose Mourinho's 'Special One' statement in 2004. His first cup final, the League Cup, ended in a loss to Manchester City on penalties. His second, the Europa League final, also ended in a loss to Sevilla. Whereas, his third, the Champions League final, also ended in defeat, this time to Real Madrid. This was Klopp's sixth defeat in seven major cup finals. Finally, in 2019, he won the UEFA Champions League defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 which was his first trophy as a Liverpool manager.

"For me, football is the only thing more inspiring than the cinema. You wake up in the morning, and the magic was all real," he stated after winning his first European trophy.

Luck continued to be on his side as he defeated Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup to win his second trophy with the club. He won the Club World Cup as well with a victory over Flamengo. Most importantly at the end of the season, he once again led Liverpool to become Premier League champions, its first title since 1989–90.

"We’re champions of England, of Europe and the world. Five years ago I asked the supporters to believe us. I told the doubters to become believers, they made it happen," he stated basking in success. In the 2021-22 season, he has already won two trophies, the League Cup and the FA Cup, and will be gunning for the third on Saturday night.
