Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Joseph Malongoane is hopeful that they will bring back the glory days to the Naturena-based giants next season.

The diminutive defender-come-midfielder inspired Amakhosi to a 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town in the final Premier Soccer League (PSL) match of the season on Saturday.

Molangoane, who grabbed a late winning goal, deservedly walked away with the man of the match award at the end of the game which was played at the Cape Town Stadium.

“The three points, it was all we wanted and we got it,” Molangoane told SuperSport TV.

As a result, Chiefs finished the season in position three on the league standings and subsequently qualified for next season's Caf Confederation Cup.

The Soweto giants have now failed to win a major trophy in three consecutive seasons and Molangoane reflected on the team's disappointing campaign which saw Steve Komphela resign as Chiefs head coach last month

“At Chiefs, you must win trophies. It is a team of trophies," he continued.

“I could play well but if you don’t bring the silverware for your team then it’s not enough," Molangoane, who made 18 appearances in the league and netted once during the 2017/18 season, added.

The 30-year-old hopes that Amakhosi fans will appreciate the fact that they qualified for Confederation Cup despite having failed to win a trophy.

“Next season I hope we are going to come back strong and give it our supporters," the former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United winger explained.

“Now we are playing in Caf next season and hopefully, the supporters can appreciate what we gave them this season," he concluded.

Chiefs will be making their return to continental football for the first time since 2016.

They were eliminated by Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas in the 2016 Caf Champions League first round.
