Johnson not surprised Mkhabela struggled at Kaizer Chiefs

Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson has stated that he is not surprised that Enocent Mkhabela struggled to play regularly at Kaizer Chiefs.

The fact that he competed with players like Willard Katsande and Lucky Baloyi made it difficult for him to break into the Chiefs starting eleven.

“I think at Chiefs, it’s different horses for different courses. I think at Chiefs, he was competing with Willard Katsande and Lucky Baloyi, and he never got his chance,” Johnson told Goal.

“So I think it’s best that he came back to Platinum Stars,” he added.

Mkhabela joined Amakhosi on a free agent from SuperSport United after falling out-of-favour with Stuart Baxter.

The central midfielder joined the Glamour Boys carrying an injury, but he never got to play a single official game for them once he recovered.

Mkhabela starred under Johnson at Dikwena when they came close to winning the 2012/13 PSL title as they finished runners-up to the self-same Amakhosi.

Johnson said they were looking for someone to come and help them with their domestic (PSL and Nebank Cup) competitions and international tournament (Caf Confederation Cup).

“We were looking for someone to come and help us with our load of local, and international competitions and Mkhabela suits us," he added.

“He knows the tactics of the team and he will help us move forward with the team this year because he is one player that controls the midfield well,” Johnson concluded.
