Japan and Senegal supporters nominated for FIFA fan award

Having shown the world how to be the best guests in Russia, fans of both countries are up for the Fifa Football Awards

Japan and Senegal supporters have been nominated for Fifa’s fan award following the example they set at the 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia.

After their 2-1 win over Colombia at the Mordovia Arena, Saransk, the Samurai Blue’s fans celebrated their victory by cleaning up the stadium.

This gesture was picked up by supporters of the Teranga Lions after their 2-1 triumph over Poland at the Otkritie Arena, Moscow.

Although both countries did not get past the Round of 16, their acts did not go unnoticed and ultimately making them a nominee for the prestigious honour.

Also among the nominees are Sebastián Carrera, a football fan who made a 3000km round trip to watch his team, Deportes Puerto Montt in action and Peru supporters club.

The panel of experts who drew up the shortlist for The Best FIFA Fan Award included the likes of Cafu, Christian Karembeu, Bora Milutinovic, Lucas Radebe, Homare Sawa and Lindsay Tarpley-Snow.

The winner will be decided by a fan poll and will be announced at a ceremony in London on September 24.
